TimN's View on the Fremantle Dockers

The Fremantle Dockers had their first season in the AFL in 1995. Right from the start, the astounding skills of their players have made them a force to be reckoned with, as their record of finishing 13th, 13th, 12th, 15th, 15th, 12th, 16th and 13th clearly shows. Then in 2003 they managed to finish 5th, but quickly redeemed themselves by losing their first ever final. 2004 and 2005 saw a return to normality, with Freo managing to just miss out on the finals in both years. Then in 2006 the side came home with a wet sail and stormed into the finals. Not only that, they won a final. 2007 saw more of a return to normality, with FReo missing the finals again.

Because of the short history of the club, there are still one or two players around the place who played in that very first year. One of them is the legend that is Shane Parker. He's the record holder for most games with the club. That's probably worth remembering for any trivia nights you might go to.

2008 was another disappointing year for me as a Freo supporter. Mark Harvey took over late in 2007, and his influence seems to have been not altogether helpful. He doesn't strike me a a particularly cunning match day coach. I may have been unrealistic, but I was hoping for a better effort than finishing 13th. At least we had Rhys Palmer as the Rising Star, and maybe next year when Haselby is back, things will work better in the midfield. Or maybe not.
