Long, long ago, there were three gods, Wisdom, Power, and Courage. The God of Power made volcanoes erupt, thus creating land. The God of Wisdom made science and wizardry, and brought Nature to order. The God of Courage created life. After they finished their work and before they left this world, they created symbols of strength from a small portion of their essences. These symbols are known as the Triforces of Power, Wisdom, and Courage. (This information was taken from the A Link to the Past booklet.) It is said that he who holds all the Triforces rules Hyrule (this game only focuses on Wisdom and Power.) The evil Ganon holds the Triforce of Power while Princess Zelda holds the Triforce of Wisdom.
One day, Ganon went to Hyrule Castle and kidnapped Princess Zelda. He ordered her to tell him where the Triforce of Wisdom was, but she did not tell him. Little did he know that she entrusted her nursemaid, Impa, with the Triforce. Impa took the Triforce and split it into eight pieces and scattered them across the world so Ganon couldn't find them.
Many a day passed before a hero, named Link, came to Hyrule. She told Link of the legend of Zelda, and asked him to save the princess. To get into Death Mountain, though, he would need to find the pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom.
Link's quest: to find the Triforce pieces, defeat Ganon, and save Princess Zelda!
+ Interesting and mind-perplexing puzzles. Normal battles flow right into the gameplay. After you beat the game (or enter ZELDA as your name) you get to play a harder, second quest. Very innovative game.
- Somewhat easy to get stuck. No character development. Characters don't talk. You can only save when you die (or enter a special code). Getting rubies to buy items can be time consuming. NES requires that you press Reset and Power at the same time when turning off the game, otherwise the data may be lost (I don't know why).

What do I say? It's a classic, so buy it, but don't cough up too much for it.
