The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

This game arguably features the most original LOZ plot! People who played A Link to the Past shouldn't need much time to warm up to this game. This game contains extra abilites, such as jumping and using your shield to block, while still keeping the basic LOZ style of battle. Interestingly enough, though, this LOZ game does not contain Zelda, as the series name would imply.

After saving Princess Zelda and Hyrule once again, Link decides to get away from it all, and cross the seas for a vacation. However, during his trip, there is a violent thunderstorm, during which time his ship breaks, and he passes out. He wakes up in a house on an island named Koholint. A woman, named Marin (who sounds a lot like Princess Zelda) wakes him up and says she found him stranded on the beach. After Link gets his Shield, from Tarin, her father, he sets out to find his Sword, which was left on shore.

When Link finds his sword, an owl approaches him... and then talks to him. The owl tells Link that to leave the island, that he must awaken the Wind Fish. The Wind Fish is asleep inside a giant egg on Koholint's central island.

And so with that, Link starts his journey. Many puzzles will be unraveled during this adventure, about Koholint and the Wind Fish. Link's journey is just beginning.

+ A good number of puzzles. You can hold two items; one of them doesn't always have to be a sword! As good of a plot as (but more original than) A Link to the Past's plot. Game Boy lets you play on the go. Each game is slightly different. Link gets the new abilities to jump, and use his shield (as an item) to defend.

- Somewhat easy to get stuck. Little character development. No Princess Zelda! Too many items identical to ones from A Link to the Past. Re-equipping new items can be annoying. With a Super Game Boy, the credits look messed up (Minor gripe).

What do I say? They have a new DX version, made especially for the Game Boy Color, so you should buy it if you like puzzles.
