Pewter City
In Pewter City you fight your first gym leader, Brock. You
must fight Brock before you will be allowed to continue your quest. Brovk's gym is
the larger center building. If you have trouble finding it just try to leave to the
east and someone will lead you there. Unless you chose Bulbasaur or Squirtle when
you started you should use Pikachu on Brock's Pokemon. You'll also have to fight one
of his junior trainers. Don't worry if your Pokemon are wounded in this first fight.
If you need to you can return to the Pokemon Center before the final battle.
This strategy works on all trainers and gyms. The JR trainers will still be beat but
you'll be at full power. Brock uses a LV12 Geodude and a LV 14 Onix. You'll
win a TM34 and a Boulder badge for winning.
Also while in Pewter be sure to visit the Pokemon museum. While
it's not nessesary to enter from the front and pay, it's not that expensive and you can
learn about some extinct Pokemon. The thing to do is to enter from the back door.
Once you have the cut ability you can use it to enter the back door. Inside
you recieve the Old Amber. You can use it later to get the extinct Aerodactyl
Pokemon. After you figh Brock you should head west to Route 3.
Route 3
Along route 3 you get your first onslaught of real trainers. With nearly ten trainers to fight along the way, you'll have your work cut out for you. Don't be afraid to return to the Pokemon center if you need to. As long as you don't loose you can earn a lot of money along this route. Really as long as your Pokemon are pretty strong you should have no problem making it through the area. If you didn't have trouble with Brock these trainers will be pushovers. In this area you can catch Pidgey Spearow and Jigglypuff, in both games. The building at the end is a Pokemon Center. A man will sell you a Magicarp for 500 gold. Buy it only if yo want to get a gead start on making it evolve into Gyarados. 500 isn't that much gold.
The cave entrance is the enterance to Mt. Moon.
