Review
Neon Genesis Evangelion (I will refer to it as EVA for short) is one of the most popular anime series in Japan, and has been a big hit overseas also. The story begins with a young boy with a serious self-confidence problem named Shinji Ikari. Even though Shinji thinks he is coming to Tokyo-3 to visit his father, his father makes Shinji join a group of teenagers to pilot the Evangelions for a company named N.E.R.V. The Evangelions are huge mecha, which are Earths only defense against the "Angels". The "Angels" are the evil threatening Earth, I can't really explain them because each "Angel" works alone and has different characteristics. Shinji isn't the only teenager controlling an Eva, actually he's one of the newest to the field. He joins Rei Ayanami to fight off the first couple Angels and Asuka Soryuu Langely joins later. Some more teenagers join later on in the story but that goes into spoilers.
This is a very deep anime. It not might be the right thing for those who prefer more action based anime (such as Dragonball Z). But, if you can think metaphorically, you could really end up liking Evangelion as the best anime ever. Everything from the character development to the continuation of the major plot will keep you hooked on this.
