IX) Japanese Army Controlled Measures for Comfort Women's Venereal Diseases.

"Service Regulations on Wartime" (on 25th May 1938), drawn up by Department of Educational Superintendent General of Japanese Army, described military authorites must positively have prevented venereal disease. Military authorites must have completely set up health facilities for comfort stations.

Moreover, soldiers must not have contacted other prostitutes and local women. "Case About Venereal Disease Control Measures of Officers Concerning the Pacific War" (on 18th June 1942), drawn by the health section of medical affairs' bureau in the Department of Japanese Army, described, "In order to prevent venereal disease, soldiers must avoid opportunites of contaminating venereal disease by strict and appropriate guidances. In addition, they must completely control hygiene of comfort stations.

Military authorities kept these documents. "Japanese Prisoner of War Interrogation Report No. 49" described further interrogation showed the good health of comfort women. They were supplied with all types of contraceptives. A lot of soldiers would bring condoms supplied by the Army.

Comfort women themselves were well trained enough to take care of both themselves and customers in the view of hygiene. A regular Japanese Army surgeon visited comfort houses once a week. Any contaminated comfort women and soldiers were secluded and sent to hospital. Soldiers were paid while he was confined in the hospital.

"Regulation of a garrison of Changzhou, China" described that every Monday or Friday as a regular medical examination. "Regulation of Asia Kaikan, the First Comfort Station at Iroiro, Phlippine" described that Army's surgeons at a garrison of Iroiro were in charge of controlling and guiding about hygiene and examined comfort women's health from 15:00 on every Tuesday. The medical examinations were seen.

"Cases About Results of Medical Examination" (on 29th September 1942) described, Name/Age /25, Good or Bad/Good, Name/(anonymous), Age/17, Good or Bad/Bad, Name of a disease/Gonorrhea.

"Life Facilities of Japanese Army (report on the investigation of ATIS, No. 120)" reported comfort women must normally take medical examinations at specified place by Army surgeons once a week. The expence of the medical examinations was paid by brothel's dealers. Every time Army surgeons had medical examinations, they reported the health of comfort women and put their seals on report.

Comfort women who were diagnosed unsuitable must not serve customers. Brothel's dealers must prepare contraceptives for comfort women, have digestives and put them into containers at bathrooms and other specified places.

Comfort stations must be clean and be equipped with supplies (mainly vaseline). They must use clean and dried beddings and bed clothes, and they must be careful of illumination and fresh air in room. The customers who refused to use contraceptives must not touch comfort women. Comfort women must not have sex in menstruation and they must take a bath every day.

"Military Police's Report of Comfort Stations in Manila" on 7th February 1944) described that military police in Manila reported comfort station's hygiene examinations and warned brothel's dealers against breaking hygiene regulations in this document.
