Well, here it is...the episode that I consider to be the most changed in the entire dub. It's a real shame, too, since this is one of my favorite episodes. But now, watch as it receives odd dialogue changes, the longest cut of the series, and has the "honor" of introducing Duo's edited version nickname for himself *shudder*

Dialogue Changes

• Episode title: "Duo, God of Death Once Again" Duo's famous nickname for himself, "God of Death", was changed to "The Great Destroyer". Up until this episode, they had avoided translating it or finding a replacement...now they finally did. I personally think it's awful. It sounds soo cheesy, and isn't that a kind of a ship (B-3 *missle noise* *explosion noise* Destroyer, sunk)? Argh, all of this work not to offend certain religious groups in a country which supposedly supports all religions really pisses me off...if other countries can say things like "The God of Death" in a "children's" show and not get in trouble, why can't we?

• Colony guy: "We've received word those engineers have already been executed."--"Executed" was changed to "eliminated" in the cut version...All I have to say is, what the hell?! This edit make no sense...the same thing happened in episode 13, only, as you may recall, the change was only made two times, even though they used "execute" four times in the episode...wacky editors...Oh, in addition, "word" was changed to "news" in the cut version. I guess they wanted some variety :P

• Zechs: "The engineers have been executed?"--Same change as above, same comments as above :P

• Duo: "What? B.S."--In the cut version, the "B.S." was completely cut out and nothing replaced it. I think it's hilarious that they were so paranoid about these two little letters that they just had to cut them out...I'm sure they imagined all the kids asking, "Mommy, what does 'B.S.' stand for?" The stuttering mother would reply, "Why, uh, it stands for 'bass' and 'soprano', like in a choir." Heh heh, and everyone knows that if you take the B.S. out of a choir, all you're left with is T & A (Sorry...all my years in choir have caused me to some up with some really strange jokes ^_^;;).

• Hilde, to Duo: "If you choose to retaliate, I'll have to kill you."--"K" to da "D", word up, yo (Translation: "kill" was changed to "destroy"...yo mama :P).

• OZ soldier: "We have orders to kill rebels when it's necessary."--"Kill" became "destroy"...we like Roy :P

• Duo, to a Mobile Doll: "Now, hurry up and finish me off...though I do hate the idea of being killed by a machine."--"Killed" became "finished off." I guess they felt like making it consistent with the first part of the sentence.

• Duo, to Hilde: "You'll get killed!"--This line became "You won't make it!" Never gonna make it, not ever, never never, not ever gonna make it (OK, anyone's who's seen "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist" will get this reference and either laugh or shake their heads in disgust....the rest of you can just continue to shake your heads ^_^)

• Duo: "The God of Death!"--This was changed to our new little "friend", "The Great Destroyer!"

• Dr. J, to Duo: "Are you here to kill us, too?"--"Kill" became "get." Damn, there have been a lot of "kill"s in this episode. They're forcing the editors to get more creative with their changes.

• Professor G, to Duo: "You traitor, coming in here and trying to kill us."--"Kill" became "destroy"...oops, guess they got tired of being creative :P

• Heero, to Duo: "You couldn't destroy the base, and you didn't kill Dr. J and the others."--"Didn't kill" became "couldn't eliminate." Yes, he couldn't eliminate his own waste and he died! The end (Sorry, I'm in a strange mood...I just graduated from high school yesterday ^_^ [June 6, 2001]).

• Duo: "Just watch me...I'll become the God of Death once again!"--"God of Death" became "Great Destroyer." Ugh, this is only the first episode it's appeared in and I'm already tired of mentioning this change, since it's exactly the same every time.

  Phew! Finally done with the dialogue butchering! Now on to the snippy-snippy fest :P

Cuts

• 62 sec.: Hilde holding a gun to Duo's head. This is the longest cut of the entire series, and it's from a scene that's important not only to the rest of the episode, but to Duo's character, as well. The part of the scence that was cut explains a bit about why Hilde goes soft on Duo later in the episode. Also, we get a chance to hear about Duo's philosophies on how foolish you have to be to be a soldier. It's one of the few glimpses we get of what the G-boys really think about the war and fighting, and it's lost in the cut version just because Duo had a gun to his head...wacky, wacky editors.
