Episode 16: The Sorrowful Battle (Kanashiki Kessen)
First Japanese airing: 1995.07.21
First English airing: 2000.03.27
Dialogue Changes
Heero: "I'll kill Zechs: that's how I'll show my gratitude."--"Kill" became "get." I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't want to do anything to make Heero deem me worthy of receiving his "gratitude" ^_^;;
Noin, about Heero and Zechs: "But they've been out to kill each other until now, so naturally they feel it is some kind of fate."--"Out to kill" was changed to "trying to get." Ah, it seems that "get" is the euphemism for "kill" in this episode :P
Relena, about Heero and Zechs: "They're trying to kill each other."--This sentence became, "They're destroying each other." Ah, there's no denying the classic dialogue change :P
Relena, to Heero: "Go ahead, kill him!"--"Kill" was changed to "finish." Ooh, a nice mix of changes. Every dialogue change in this episode involved the word "kill," and it got changed into three different things. What a variety :P
Edits
Heero's bloody bandage: This is edited continuously throughout the episode, except for 1 second when Heero flopped down on the bed. Another case of not editing because something went by too quickly for most people to notice (but I bet they were counting on some crazy otaku to pick apart their editing job ^o^). I think there was also a one second cut of a close up shot of the blood.
In General
Well, this episode ends what I like to call the first "part" of Gundam Wing. What I mean by "part" is that the episodes change focus for awhile, and dividing them up is fairly easy. The fist part focuses on Earth, and consists of episodes 1-16. The second part focuses on space and goes from 17-26. 27 and 28 are review episodes, the first one focusing on the events of part one and the second on events of part two. Part three switches focus back to Earth and runs from 29-36. Finally, the fourth part switches back to space and runs from 37-49. I'm just telling you this now in case I ever refer to the "parts" in later episode reviews.
