Dialogue Changes
Duo: "Let's move in for the kill."--This line becomes "'Kay guys, this is it." This is the first line in the series to be completely changed to something else, making it difficult for me to find it when I was searching the cut version for it.
Noventa, to Treize: "There's no point in getting killed."--"Getting killed" became "being destroyed."
Noin: "Isn't this a bit bloody for the laying of a foundation?"--"Bloody" became "extreme." Hmmm...interesting...now tell me, since when did "blood" become a bad word? Well, I guess since they edit the blood out of the cut version, it doesn't make sense to talk about it, ne? This change makes even less sense since the freakin' episode title mentions blood! *Rolls eyes* Ahh, the joys of the inconsistencies of dubbing...
Septum, talking about Noventa: "He was killed by the colonies' invading Mobile Suits."--"Killed" was changed to "destroyed."
Edits
Septum getting shot through the head: I knew that this scene would at best be shown edited, or at worst be cut entirely. Luckily, the best case scenario (heh heh) happened, and it was just edited. What was edited is the shot where Septum is seen falling out of the plane; they edited out the stream of light that indicates the bullet going through his head. I'm glad this scene was kept...after all, it's one of the cruelest scenes of violence in Gundam Wing. Lady Une totally uses Septum for OZ's purposes, then drops him out of a plane and, to top it all off, shoots him through the head...All this is kept in the cut version except the shot through the head, but even if it's not shown, it's still implied that she shoots him; you do still see her take aim and hear the gun firing.
Cuts
"Cut in the uncut?!" Yep, there was something I noticed in this episode that makes me think that there are some cuts being made to the "uncut" version. For some reason, the "Septum getting shot through the head" scene was a few frames shorter than the original. In the "uncut" version, it starts where the stream of light is already through his head, indicating he's been shot. Originally, however, it started a bit earlier; you see the stream of light come down and then go through his head. I don't know if this is a time cut or an attempt to cut down the violence a little in the so-called "uncut" version, but I think no matter what the reason, an uncut version should be *gasp* uncut.
Voices
Septum: Sheesh, I'm not sure who decided that the guy doing Septum's voice needed to be angry all the time and yell every line, but I think they really need to take a look at the original version. Sure, Septum was a relatively minor character who only appeared in three episodes and was then killed, but that's no excuse for making him sound really annoying and constantly irritated. Most of the voices in the dub are good, but this is one of the few that they really should have considered doing a different way.
In General
"How'd they get away with that?" This was the second episode in which a certain "naughty" word is used in the cut version. Take a look at this line from Duo: "Crap! They just keep coming." This is the second time that "crap" is used, so I don't think it's a mistake. Heh heh, I'm not sure who decided "crap" was OK for a show rated Y7, but it's still cool to have an "almost swear word" being used in the "kid-friendly" version.
