Cows go moo
So I've been playing the Master Quest version of Ocarina of Time and I'm disturbed as hell and want to know what they've been smoking. No really, this is pretty fucking weird. I'd expect something like this from Atlus, not Nintendo. In JabuJabu's belly there are random cows sticking out of the walls. And they moo, because they're not dead cows. And they're switches, so if you shoot them, doors open and treasure chests appear. IT MAKES NO SENSE. I can deal with the cows showing up in random holes, on the tops of mountains, in jail, etc, but I'm not sure I'm emotionally equipped to deal with cows as switches sticking out of the walls. This is one of the most WTF things I've ever seen in a videogame. It's not even "haha, that's fucked up" it's "why the hell is there a COW in the wall?!"
Er...yeah. I was intending to rant about anime, comparing magical thief with magical detective, but DUDE, COWS. Next time I guess. I'll archive and give you a (different) pretty picture to look at too.
And last but not least, we have a houseguest, so I can't be online until 3am, like I usually am. If you wanna talk to me you'll have to find me before 11pm pacific time. (this last bit crossposted to lj)
Just because this amused me: 1999 hits on the X pairing generator. I just happened to look and it was 1999.

Haku
So a few days ago I saw Sen To Chihiro (that's uh...Spirited Away in the US, yes, I did have to think about it because I was reading Newtype before it came out in Japan, so it will always be Sen To Chihiro to me) with May because I hadn't seen it and I was bored. I meant to rant about this then, but I got distracted. You know me, attention span of ferret on pixy stix. Oh bugger, I think I'm going to end up spoiling bits of the movie, go away if it bothers you. So of course the usual joke around where I chat is that Haku looks like Touya Akira from Hikaru no Go. This may be basically true, but I have decided that Haku is about 10,000 times hotter than Akira could ever hope to be. This is for two main reasons: 1. he can kick your ass, 2. he's a dragon. Other included reasons are: he's not a gay pansy and he dresses in traditional clothing as opposed to some modern atrocity. Uh, that about covers what I have to say. Yup, lame, that's me.

Can you tell I'm bored today?
Apparently geocities only keeps site statistics around for about a year and a half, so even though people (I'm assuming you're all people) read this, my total page views hasn't changed in several months much. This means the massive influx from megatokyo is off the records finally. It also means that I have a fairly fixed audience because the stats haven't dropped off. So who are you all that read this regularly?

Throwing myself to the rabid monkeys
Have agreed to be on not one but two panels at fanime (assuming neither of them are on Sunday). Will probably shorten my life expectancy by several years. Anyways, I'll be doing a CLAMP panel with Steph. We have arranged for a bouncer to throw out any fangirl that screams because we cannot and will not deal with them. Dom also asked me to be on the Shounen Jump panel with him. I'm not sure what will happen with that though, so far I think it's because he signed up, but I've read jump comics for longer. Anyways, if you want to watch me get fried, show up, but please don't scream, I'm not joking about the bouncer.

Mmm...plebey
I decided it was a good night to be a plebe (aka lamer or fangirl, pick a term you like). I've been listening to X Japan and reading Tokyo Babylon. If I were a real plebe I'd have written a Tokyo Babylon songfic to an X Japan song. But I'm not. So I just sat back and enjoyed doing something I used to do when I was young and foolish. Maybe next time I'll read Sailor Moon or something...

Oopsies ^^;
I was about half done with this entry when I learned an important lesson! When stacking manga in front of your tower case, do not stack past the power button because when it falls over, the computer turns off. So let's try writing this again.
I promised you a manga update, but damned if I remember the last one I did. Looking through the archives it seems to have been fairly hit and miss for a while. Anyways, I'm skipping the magazines, and here's the seven most recent volumes of manga in short recap form.
One Piece 27 - We're having some characters introduced so that Luffy and friends may later beat on them rather than just go "we're cool! we're sailing on clouds!"
Bleach 7 - Byakuya is being an evil nii-san and beating up Ishida and Ichigo because he's pissy that he didn't get to remove his curlers before going out to kidnap his sister.
Black Cat 12 - Train un-chibifies, Tiayu can't cook, there's a monkey that turns into a chick, and Sven does his 1337 Sven thing.
I'll 12 - Kouzu is losing, the Hayamazaki players get some character development, and Yamazaki messes up his knee.
Naru Taru 10 - I'm not sure this is the end, things still aren't resolved but the main character appears to be dead.
Shounen Shinkaron Plus 4 - Mizuki(Naoki) gets sick and there is much manager angst. Chounen Shinkaron at the back is really cute.
So because people kept asking me stuff about the DNAngel anime, I downloaded the first ep and watched it. Okay, I downloaded it twice, I got the Anime Junkies version off Henry, and then later on a whim I got the Ishin version. If you're looking to download it, don't get the Anime Junkies version, it's inconsistant in naming, shows little basic familiarity with character names in the series, and has a rather shoddy translation. There's apparently a third fansub out there by someone else, but I haven't seen it. Okay, enough bitching about the fansubs, let's bitch about the anime itself. They manage to introduce a character in the first minute that doesn't show up until volume 4 of the manga, then they make about 4-5 pages from volume one fill almost half the episode. Not to mention it apparently takes place in rural Italy on the coast. I don't know if they ever say where it takes place specifically, but I do know that the backgrounds don't look like this. Personally, I'm disturbed by the dungeon of evil magic in the Niwa house because I have no clue where it came from. The end of the ep is lacking the inner dialogue between Daisuke and Dark, and they pull an odd switch with the twins and have Dark kiss Riku far before he's supposed to. Moving right along to the important thing though: THE ANIME IS GAYER THAN THE MANGA. They take the same scenes and lines and make them at least ten times more gay. I'm blaming the fact that they cast Akira Ishida as Hiwatari. Ishida makes everything gayer, so instead of being creepy and disturbing Hiwatari comes off as wanting to jump Daisuke's ass. I've always seen Hiwatari as a Midorikawa character because he's a cold self-centered bastard, so I've never really liked how he was cast in the anime or on the drama cds. The translation of the Hiwatari scenes also makes a difference to the gay level: Anime Junkies has him say "I've been living up until now, just to get you!" versus Ishin's "My sole purpose in life is to capture you. I've got nothing other than that." I don't think I'll bother watching more of this unless I get really bored. I know pretty much what happens, and the adaptation is just off enough to be jarringly different while still quite familiar.

Hisashiburi da na!
Yes, I did in fact fall in a black pit of doom! And my soul was eaten! No, it wasn't a vile tentacle monster that did it. It was Nintendo. I went a while with simply having nothing to say, and then I got a videogame, and you know how it goes. I'm sure I owe you all a few brief manga updates if you care, but you don't get that tonight, I have bigger fish to fry.
After much work and the most html I've ever done, I have completed the page ranting about the horrible horrible clothing in Hikaru no Go. The page is Hikaru no Ghei and I do intend to update it periodically until the manga ends. That means I might have to get it it's very own webspace because it's going to be pretty big.
Okay, like I said, Nintendo ate my soul. If you weren't clued in by the image up there, I've been playing Wind Waker (the image is cropped from a wallpaper at zelda.com). Depending on how sensitive you are to spoilers you may want to stop reading now, but I don't plan on revealing any horribly huge plot secrets. Anyways, while the world is huge and there's a ton of places to explore, the game feels really short to me. There's only 5 what I view as proper dungeons, 2 trips to the Forsaken Fortress, and Ganon's lair o' evil. Two of the dungeons are two character dungeons, not nearly as annoying as Lord Jabu Jabu's belly in Ocarina of Time, but still frustrating. And then there's a LOT of fetch quests. First you have to sail everywhere to get maps, then you have to get your maps decoded and sail everywhere to get what's marked on the map. And instead of having an annoying fairy yelling at you all the time, you instead get a talking boat, that when you start going the wrong direction to follow the plot, turns you around so that you're going where he says. Finally the boss battle is as much luck and speed as it is any technique, and I swear it would be easier if Zelda would leave you with your bow so you could fire the damn arrows at Ganondorf. And I think I'll leave it at that.
