Volumes 5 and 6

In volume five the characters manage to spend a decent amount of time outside of school, allowing for some fairly nasty atrocities. In volume six, Hikaru becomes an insei, and less time is spent in his school uniform. Akira in volume six continues to violate us all.

Duhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuhnuh GO SHIRT! (episode seven)
volume 5, page 27

I find this to be the least offensive of the go shirts because the five on it is fairly small and there's nothing else really odd about it. I wouldn't even have noticed this shirt if he didn't ALWAYS WEAR SHIRTS WITH THE NUMBER FIVE ON THEM.

The Paisley Pimp
volume 5, page 30

Ogata for once appears without his White Pimpsuit(tm), and somehow manages to find a shirt with the ugliest paisley I have ever seen on a male in manga. I'm pretty sure I've seen this exact screentone used for lace on big fancy dresses in shoujo manga. It's not kosher on a guy's shirt.

The Mangling of the Sleeves Continues!
volume 5, page 42

Yet again Akira manages to wear long pants, but his sleeves suffer because of it. He probably developed this tendancy to mangle his clothing as a way to work out his issues with his father. Or he's just gay.

Hikaru's Tights Return
volume 5, page 50

I scanned this initially because yet again Hikaru is wearing tights with his shorts. But looking at it again, it's a pretty bad combination and I dread to think of what it would look like in color. Not only are there the tights, but the shorts have some obscene pattern on them, and I'm guessing the shirt probably doesn't match either of them.

o/~ Attaaaaack of the killer go shiiiirt o/~ (the eighth)
volume 5, page 88

The problem with this is it has a fruity zipper up the front, but the visible five is on the back. So it's fruity in the front, but follows the bad pun pattern on the back.

Akota-san the HOMIE
volume 5, page 77

You remember Akota-san and his toupee from volume one? Well he comes back in volume five, sans toupee, but he's dressin' like a homeboy. This picture pretty much speaks for me, adding anything would be redundant.

Kishimoto's Shirt
volume 5, page 113

Kishimoto managed to avoid doing anything too horribly wrong because he only showed up in his school uniform. Until this shirt. It has big shiny elbow patches much like your elderly literature professor's sports jacket! If Kishimoto lost the patches it really wouldn't be so bad, but Obata likes to make things look weird.

Waya's Camoflage Sweatervest
volume 5, page 201

This is a crime against camoflage. The military needs to hunt Waya down for this and burn it. I'm not sure how one makes a sweater with a camoflage pattern, but Waya found one, and worse yet, it has a big star right in the middle of the chest. I'm guessing this article of clothing was rejected by the chinese communist army some time in the 1950's and it landed in Waya's closet.

Go Shirt Number Nine
volume 5, page 196

This would be a nice sane shirt in a world of fashion disasters had Obata NOT FELT IT NECESSARY TO PUT A FIVE ON IT. I quit laughing at these a long time ago. I'm not even amused, I just roll my eyes.

Ike Ike GO GO GO! (shirt number 10)
volume 6, page 52

This is special, not only does it fulfill the visual pun requirement Obata apparently has for Hikaru's wardrobe, but it seems to have a built in bondage collar. There is no hood on it, just a high neck with laces on it. I can think of no other purpose for such a collar than bondage.

Akira's Jacket
volume 6, page 65

This whole thing is pretty much WTF. First it has the stupidest fastenings since Akari's toggle skirt. Then it has the most random seams, with piping along them. And finally, while it is apparently white, the Kaio winter uniform proved that we don't actually know what color it could be, and for all we know it might be a lovely rose pink. Akira, you need help, badly.

The Shorts Strike Back!
volume 6, page 89

Akira managed to stop mangling his sleeves, but the shorts have made a reappearance. And this time he's taken a page from Hikaru's book and is wearing tights with them, for the fruitiest combination he's ever worn. Puu actually thought we needed a new rating on the gay-o-meter for this outfit. Too bad, we don't get one. Just imagine there's a higher rating than "FLAMING!"

Isumi's Cardigan
volume 6, page 148

Isumi thus far managed to wear only rather boring dress shirts and need his hair trimmed. But this cardigan makes it obvious that his grandmother dresses him. I could see a girl wearing something like this to flaunt her chest. Isumi is a guy though, and this is the wrong way to flaunt chest, if that is his goal.
