Quest for Glory IV

Shadows of Darkness

This Quest for Glory was a landmark game for the series. Not only does it have better animation than the others, the characters have voice! This is a wonderful game with a great plot! (Don't ask me to compare it with FF7 though, that would be like comparing apples to oranges.) Sierra must have spent a good amount of time on this one!

After you destroyed the demon in Wages of War, dark magic sends you to the Dark One's Cave in Mordavia. On your "trip" there you lose all your money and items. All you have is your armor. Using things you find from the skeletons in the cave, you find your way out. Outside, there is a lovely sounding girl named Katrina. You find out when you get to the town that the swamp by the cave has been cutting off their trade for years, and that you are one of the two strangers in Mordavia, and they don't like strangers. The Burgomeister doesn't give you a very fond welcome as well. On your quest you will help a gnome get back his sense of humor from Baba Yaga (remember her from QFG1?). You will also have to help a gypsy, return an innkeeper's daughter into back to human form, and help drive away the Dark One.

+ Ability to import from QFG1-3. Many different ways to solve puzzles. Realistic (disregarding the fantasy element), examples: items have weight, you can only hold a certain amount of weight, etc. Time changes from day to night. Characters have a voice. Good graphics and animation. There is a good variety of characters.

- Awkward battles. More glitches than the others. Easy to get stuck. If you import, then you lose all the items you had.

What do I say? People who have a hard time with Zelda or Lufia should leave this alone (unless you want to get a walkthru). You can get these four as an anthology, so buy that to get the best price.
