Quest for Glory I

So You Want To Be A Hero?

Note: This game was originally called Hero's Quest but the name was too similar to a game already made (Hero Quest).

This PC game made by Sierra is one of a kind. You get to choose to be in any of three occupations: fighter, magic user, or thief. (Thief is my favorite.) While the main quest of each one is the same, each one has certain things that only type can do. There are many ways to solve puzzles in this game, depending on what your occupation is. There are two versions of this game, one where the commands are entered via keyboard, and one (better graphics) where the commands are entered via mouse.

You just graduated from the Famous Adventurers' Correspondence School, and traveled east to Spielburg to become a hero. However, what you didn't know was that being a hero involved fighting monsters, twarting brigands, saving the baron's son and daughter, and chasing away an evil Ogress. You must also return Abdulla Doo's fortune from the brigands (which contains a magic carpet). You arrive at Spielburg gates where your adventure starts.

+ Choose from three occupations. Many different ways to solve puzzles. A lot of humor added in the game (especially in version 1). You get a "Growth pool" at the beginning to increase certain attributes. Realistic (disregarding the fantasy element), examples: items have weight, you can only hold a certain amount of weight, etc. Time changes from day to night.

- Battles can be awkward. Easy to get stuck.

Note: In this table, V1 and V2 indicate the version number (since two versions were released. Attributes without V1/V2 indicate that both versions are the same in that attribute.

What do I say? People who have a hard time with Zelda or Lufia should leave this alone (unless you want to get a walkthru). You can get these four as an anthology, so buy that to get the best price.
