Rare Pokemon

    Some Pokemon are very rare.  They can only be found in a few places and can often be found only once or twice per game.  this section explains how to catch some of these rare Pokemon.

Snorlax

    Snorlax only appears twice in each game.  One is on the docks east ofVermilion City.  The other is located west of Celadon City.   It's difficult to capture this Pokemon since it regenerates itself when it's health is low by resting.  Using attacks to put it to sleep or poison it are helpful and using attacks such as Super Fang that cut it's health in half each hit.

Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl
       

    These three Pokemon are all extinct and must be genetically engeneered from fossils.  The Aerodactyl is made from the Old Amber from the Pewter City museum, and can be gotten in any game.  Only one or the other of Kabuto and Omanyte can be caught in one game.  These are made from the Helix fossile and the Dome fossile respectively.  These fossiles are found in Mt. Moon and you can only take one of the two.

Porygon

    Porygon can only be cought from the Celadon city game corner.  If you have the Blue game it will cost you 6500 coins!  If you have the red version it'll cost you even more at 9999 coins.

Lapras

    There is only one of these to be gotten.  You get it form a man in the Silph Co. headquarters on the 7th floor.

Eevee

    Eevee can only be gotten from a man at the top floor of Celadon Mansion.  You have to enter from the rear of the building.

    These four Pokemon must be traded for from other characters in the game.
Jinx for a Polywhirl in Cerulean City
Mr.Mime for an Abra on Route 2
Farfetch'd for a Spearow in Vermilion City
Lickitung for a Slowbro on Route 18

Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan
   

    Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan are two fighting Pokemon that can be gotten only by defeating the trainers in the Saffron City Fighting Dojo.  The down side is you can only take one of the two.

Zapdos             Articuno             Moltres
       

    These are the three rare bird Pokemon.  They each only appear once but can all be caught in one game.  They are difficult to catch due to their strong attacks.

Zapdos can be cought in the powerplant North of Lavender town.  You have to get there by surfing down the river in the far NE corner of the map.

Articuno is found in Seafoam Island.  That's the Island on the way to Cinnabar island. 

Moltres is found in Victory road, the last dungeon before the end of the game.

Mewtwo

    The most powerful Pokemon in the game can't be caught untill after you beat the Elite Four and become a Pokemon Champion.  After you win the unknown dungeon will open.  Mewtwo is at the end of this dungeon.  If you use you you Master ball, use it on this guy.  He's as tough as they get and way up on level 70!  The unknown dungeon is located NW of Cerulean City.

Mew

    A Pokemon stronger than Mewtwo?  Yes it's true.   An this is the rearest of them all.  Unless you cheat and use a Gameshark, the only way to get this Pokemon is to win it from Nintendo Power.  Then you'll have to hope the 151 winners trade them around so the rest of the world can have this Pokemon in thier Pokedex.
