- To download from MySpace.com first click on the myspace link, eg.
- Login to MySpace.com using your login and password along with the password for the shared
folder. If you don't have your own login then sign up for one.
- Click on the "Enable multiple file up/downloads" option. Each file will now have links of
the form "http://208.39.14.157/Files/5319052-7192142-SHPW24359715/LoveHina_16.r00"
instead of "javascript:DownloadFileByID( 7193199 );".
You want to avoid using the javascript links.
- Paste these links into the download client of your choice.
I recommend Net Vampire ( http://www.netvampire.com ) but GetRight is also a good choice
( http://www.getright.com ). File resuming should work fine with both Net Vampire and GetRight.
If you choose to use IE or Netscape to download and your download breaks then I have no sympathy
for you.
- MySpace should allow as many simultaneous downloads as you want so if you have a faster
than modem connection then set multiple downloads going. Don't expect to get high download rates,
the best I usually get is 5k/s. However if you set 10 files going then you can potentially
get 50k/s which isn't bad.
- Part way through downloading, one of your downloads may break with a "File not found" error.
This is because MySpace.com regularly rotates the location of it's files. The way to get round
this is to first logout of MySpace.com. Then log back in (Steps 1-3). The links should hopefully
now be updated with the new links. Update the links of each download in NetVampire/GetRight
using these new links. You should still be able to resume the download where you left off.
- You may encounter other errors:
- "Folder not Found" - Not much you can do about this one, but if you've already been
logged into MySpace for a while try logging back out and in again. Otherwise just
try clicking on the folder again, it may start working.
- "Database error" - MySpace is seriously screwed right now. Better to try again later.
- "Down for maintenance" - Not really an error. MySpace is doing some work on their servers so
files aren't available during this time. They usually give a time for when the work
will be finished so try again then.
- "404 File not Found" - Occassionally a file really isn't there (maybe I forgot to upload it?
Should only be the case on the very latest episodes, any older episodes will have been verified).
However if you see the file listed then it almost certainly is there, just that MySpace has
changed the location.
- "Maximum download usage for this account has been exceeded. Please try again later." - Ouch,
this seems to happen if alot of people have been downloading from a particular account. Nothing
you can do about it except to try again later or perhaps try an alternative myspace or ftp mirror if there is one.
-
Some closing points.
AFI does not run or own MySpace.com
and is completely powerless to do anything when things aren't working.
Remember, MySpace is a free service, and, as is often the case,
you pay the price in terms of reliability and hassle. No one is forcing you to
use MySpace and whenever possible we will try and provide an alternative download
method (usually an ftp).
