LOVE HINA
|
Love Hina is a popular new series
that has recently been broadcast in Japan.
It starts off with a young boy and girl playing together.
The girl promises that they will both go to Tokyo Uni together and fall in love(!).
We then move on to where the boy, Keitarou, is now a young man, the girl
has long since moved away, and Keitarou in fact can't even remember her name.
To make matters worse he's about to fail the Tokyo Uni entrance exams for the
3rd year running and his Mum is threatening to kick him out of home! Luckily
his Grandmother comes to the rescue when she asks him to look after her all
female boarding house, effectively giving him a place to stay. I won't say

TO HEART
|
To Heart is a 13 episode
TV series that was shown in Japan
in 1999. It's not quite your typical anime, at least not when compared to other anime
that has seen release outside Japan. There are no giant mechs running around, no western style
shootouts, no magical girl transformations, no tentacles, no psychotic serial killers, no alien invasions,
not even any torrid on again off again romances! Even martial arts take a back foot!
So what does that leave us with? In this case an anime that focuses on everyday life in school
and the way the students interact with each other. While clearly not a gritty realistic look
at life, To Heart is instead a touching look at what the world might be like if everyone
was perhaps a little more respectful of others feelings.
Hopefully I haven't turned you off yet! Although To Heart is a little more down to earth than most animes it certainly didn't stop the writers from creating some interesting characters. These include a girl who forsees misfortune of those she cares about. This causes her to become a loner, avoiding human contact. Another girl's hobby is witchery (although not the evil kind in this case), one episode sees her hunting around for a lizards tail! Partly because of her strange hobby and also because she talks incredibly softly, she also has trouble making friends.
