Why I became an artist?
Well, for most people it started with cartoons.  I am a product of too much televison when I was young.  It holds true to this day my love for cartoons.  I would awake on Saturday mornings and draw every character that poped up on the screen.  They were stick men in the beginning and they were my stick men.  I cost my parents  tons of money in the purchase of sketch books and drawing pencils from Wal-Mart.   Into my life came none other than The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I would draw them as if they were going out of style.  If an artist tells you they didn't draw other characters when they were younger, they are not being truthful.  From the Turtles to Sonic to Capcom fighting games to Spiderman and other comic characters my dream was to become a comic artist someday. I looked at my chances of becoming a comic artist and the odds against me even today.  I one day plan to go after my dream and submit to the comic industry.  I'm ready!!!

What is it like working for the Jackson Free Press?
I am an illustrator for the Jackson Free Press.  I started in February, 2003.  It has been a roller coaster ride working for the Jackson Free Press.  The experience with the Free Press has been the greatest for me and my art.  I want to give Donna lots of thanks for giving me the opportunity to shine. The process begins with me receiving e-mail from JFP sometime on Thursday and the work has to be completed by Sunday if at all possible.  I take the story that has been presented to me and come up with several concept drawings to submit to JFP via e-mail.  JFP returns the approved concept drawing by Saturday night.  Believe me, its tougher doing the front cover in such a short period of time.  I draw it, scan it, color it using Photoshop or Painter and send it in.  That's it.  I then go to our local Borders for a printed copy of the magazine.

Who are your favorite artists?
Norman Rockwell is my favorite artist.  He captures moments in time that are seen by millions in the Saturday Evening Post and on calenders.  Norman Rockwell is my biggest influence when it comes to fine art.  I dislike that most people don't respect his works as they do DaVincis, Dalis, and Picassos of the world.  No matter what, Rockwell is my favorite!!!   Other influences from the comics in no particular order are:  Humberto Ramos, Chris Bachalo, Joe Quesada, Mark Bagley, the Romitas, Jim Lee, Bryan Hitch, Tim Sale, David Mack, Josh, Middleton, Keron Grant, Lesean Thomas, Chris Cross, Skottie Young, Joe Bennett, the Kuberts, Joe Mad, Scott Campbell, Kaare Andrews, Leinil Yu, Rick Leorandi, Adam Hughes, Terry Dotson, Sam Keith, and tons of others. Sorry for the long list.  These are the best to me and they needed to be mentioned by name.
