Episode #13 "Lilliputian Hitcher"

NERV is attempting to create an odd body that would be somehow be able to interact with all three Evangelion pilots. The whole thing is linked through NERV's super computers, the MAGI. Something goes terribly wrong with the experiment so they launch the entry plugs of the three pilots, who are naked, outside into the lake. Meanwhile Ritsuko, Maya, and the other two NERV computer guys who just constantly scream "Oh, no!" throughout the episode, realize that their computer is being hacked. At first they think it is a problem with Windows 95 but then realize it is an angel when an odd substance infects and area and when some small lasers try destroying it an AT field comes up. The angel is attempting to take over all three MAGI computers, Melchior, Balthasar, and Casper. It manages to take over Melchior and Balthasar but at the last moment (once again) Ritsuko and Maya defeat the angel with their keyboards. During this episode, I was hysterically laughing, when I watched it. With those two guys who just kept screaming along with the hacking of the system I even laughing thinking about it right now. I was half expecting Bill Gates to show up on the computer screen and announce himself as the angel. One of my personal favs. and the angel was one of the closest to winning.

Episode #14 "Weaving a Story"

At this time when the episode was being produced, I heard rumors of the budget of Gainax being exhausted. I am glad it was not true or at least that their budget was approved. In any case this episode in some ways rips the viewer off and in other ways is great because if you hadn't seen any episodes before hand this gave a recap of the battles with all the angels. The second part is not very good. Shinji and Rei both try each other's EVAs. Both of them say the EVA smells like the other. Asuka didn't try anyone elses EVA because "We knew you wouldn't want anyone piloting yours..." as Misato explained. When Shinji tries EVA-00 it goes beserk again and bangs its head and fists into the wall and it looks like it was trying to kill Rei just before it powered down. Kozo gets somewhat concerned, and rightfully so! Gendo of course could care less and sends Rei with EVA-00 on a mission with a big spear (the spear of Loginus).

Episode #15 "Those Women Longed for the Touch of Other's Lips and Thus Invited Their Kisses"

This episode is where we finally get some light shed on Ryoji Kaji. At first he is hiding himself talking to a woman who tells him the Marduk Project has been started again and that NERV is looking for the "Fourth Child." Thats not the only thing he learns. Someone is after him but you know Kaji could care less about his life. The kids once again are at NERV being tested and Shinji is having trouble concentrating and focusing. Misato and Ritsuko go to a wedding and Kaji was invited as well. Gendo and Shinji go to his mother's, Yui Ikari, grave in a mass grave yard and stand there for a few minutes. Shinji opens himself up to Gendo and his father isn't as cold hearted as he normally is. And then leaves him alone at his mother's grave (there is nobody in the there because there were no remains) Ritsuko leaves early and Misato gets royally drunk and tells Kaji (he's sober) she loves him and says that maybe she had to get drunk in order to tell him and if so that was good. Kaji tells her to stop it and starts to walk, with an asleep Misato, back to her apartment. At Misato's apartment Shinji is playing the cello when Asuka asks if he ever kissed anyone. He replies an obvious no and she asks if he would like to kiss her. This is a key scene. Trust me. At the end of it Asuka is spitting and Shinji is blushing and says immediately "Woah, momma!" Or at least in the English version. Later the next day Misato wakes up and finds out her ID card was stolen and goes to NERV looking for Kaji. He shows her what Gendo was hiding, a white Angel, "Adam!".

Episode #16 "Splitting of a Breast"

A just plain weird looking angel attacks Tokyo-3. The thing looks like a shadow sphere though a black hole is under it and keeps growing. Shinji, Rei, and Asuka had just finished sync ratio tests with Shinji scoring the highest. After being dared by Asuka, he leads an attack against it saying it was "... a man's job..." but got swallowed up by the black hole. Plans fail to rescue Shinji and Ritsuko decides they need to destroy angel at all costs since Shinji was most likely dead since his life support probably ran out by then. The one thing you can never do is count that shy little kid and good old purple EVA-01 out. As Asuka jumps from building to building trying to avoid the blackhole all the sudden the EVA goes berserk and beats the he!! out of the angel from the inside. It turns out the sphere was only a projection. A beserk EVA-01 tears apart the angel and we see an evil looking EVA-01 standing alone. Shinji was unconscious, when he wakes up Rei is at his bed side.
