These Bloopers Were Made for Fun...

by Ira Goldberg
Issue IV - February 3rd, 2000

When I first proposed the ideas of a bloopers section to a few webmasters on the net, I was basically scoughed at. No one wanted to put them up and only one other site had even a few listed. That was the basis of the creation of NERV Headquarters.

And for a while people really enjoyed them and many of the visitors still do enjoy them. I've gotten countless emails telling me that a visitor particularly enjoyed them and shared them with their friends, that they couldn't stop laughing when they watched the series, or they simply found it insightful.

I'd occasionally get a few emails telling me the bloopers were terrible, I was ruining the series, and the occasionally "otaku" trying to intellectually bash me or "correct" me for my errors and the contributions of everyone else. As hard as it is to believe, I do read what the people send in to me and there have been rejections, tons of them.

The problem recently, with the resurgence of popularity this site has recieved, is the fact that now the submissions and compliments about the bloopers section, combined, don't outweigh the complaints. Honestly, I never did give half a crap about the "You suck! Go to hell!" emails, but people continued to demand the bloopers be taken down.

I caved in and created the "counter-arguements" section to appease the masses of Otaku who simply couldn't let this page exist with some autonomy. I decided to post the "explanations" from a guy who was one of the nicer Otaku. I thought the situation was over. Problem solved. I let them have their appeasement and have someone try dissprove the bloopers and have it a sign that its entirely probable there were more bloopers that one could explain.

The fact is, no one gets the point anymore. Hell, I doubt anyone even really reads this but at least I can vent. The bloopers was designed to entertain you. This is an anime! Do you think anyone really believes anything can truly be explained in an anime where giant robots with human souls walk around?!?

Its Science Fiction. It operates on the premise that you set up a group of rules and go by that. Now I'm being told the laws of physics and logic dictate that these are wrong. How does logic and physics explain Evangelion at all. Here's a thought, especially to the five or six people who are now making it there weekly hobby to dissprove a blooper, and you know who you are, I put that up to appease you! That good enough? You've gotten your victory. Why can't you leave it at that?

You may not affect the visitors of this site, then again you may, but the fact remains its there for the egos out there.

Can I go to bed yet?
