The year is 2015 AD.  15 years after the world has suffered from an international catastrophe known as the Second Impact.  Mankind is just starting to rebuild, when suddenly, an entity known as an Angel arrives in Tokyo-3.   

NERV, the special agency set-up by the United Nations is assigned to deal with the Angel threat.  Commander Gendo Ikari, supreme commander of NERV calls on his son, 14-year old Shinji Ikari to pilot the humanoid fighting machine called Evangelion.  Without prior training, Shinji steps on-board, not knowing what he is about to face.

Shinji is psychologically hurt in his first battle with Angels.  After suffering from the hands of his classmates and friends, Shinji believes that he is of no use to NERV and his father.  However, with the new Angel threat on Tokyo-3, will Shinji find the fighting spirit to fight, or will he just let Tokyo-3 be destroyed. 

Also, in this volume...Shinji runs away from Tokyo-3.  The stresses Shinji faces whenever he battles with the Angels is finally getting to him.  Thinking that running away is his only solution, he departs on a pointless journey from Tokyo-3.  Can Misato ever comfort Shinji after suffering so much already? 
 
Neon Genesis  Evangelion Volume 3 (Episodes 5 and 6)

A new Angel appears above Tokyo-3.  This time, the 5th Angel has unsurpassed defense ability which makes it virtually undefeatable.  With Unit 01 heavily damaged and Shinji Ikari, the pilot knocked-out, Misato must find a way to stop this Angel from drilling into NERV headquarters. 

Aside from that, this volume also gives us a small glimpse in the life of the First Child, the mysterious Rei Ayanami.  With time running out and Unit 01 out of commission, can Misato find the right solution to this new threat?
 
Neon Genesis  Evangelion Volume 4 (Episodes 7 and 8)

NERV is finally under threat from the species it was formed to protect: humans.  When people were having doubts about the performance of the Evangelions and the effects it could have on pilots, a rival company designs Jet-Alone, a nuclear-powered mech which (they say) could defeat the Angels.  However, when the Jet-Alone goes berserk, it's only up to Shinji and Unit 01 to stop it. 

Also in this volume enters a new pilot: Asuka Langley Shoryu, the pilot of Evangelion Unit 02.  On route to Japan, Unit 02 comes under attack from an aquatic Angel.  With important cargo aboard, Shinji and Asuka must learn to fight together to defeat the Angel that awaits them.

A new kind of Angel attacks Tokyo-3.  This time, this Angel has the ability to split itself into 2 seperate beings making it almost impossible to destroy as its core also seperates.  When Asuka and Unit 02 make a desperate attempt to stop the Angel results in humiliation, NERV must find a way to defeat the Angel which only means making Shinji Ikari and Asuka Langley Shoryu work together as they should.  Could they? 

NERV also goes into an offensive posture, trying to capture a live Angel specimen under the extreme conditions of a volcano.  With Asuka Langely Shoryu volunteering to take on this dangeroud mission, what would she find in there?

NERV headquarters has been sabotaged!  In time when the power of NERV is cut-off, a new Angel attacks headquarters using a strong kind of acid which literally eats away anything.  Add this to the problem that the three Eva pilots are stuck on the outside and cannot enter the NERV base means a big problem for Misato and company.  Will Gendo and Misato be able to conjure a plan to defeat this Angel in the still darkness? 

Also, Misato's loyalty towards NERV has very much been recognized to the point she has been promoted!  But what actually lies in her that makes her want to destroy the Angels?

NERV is under attack from a new kind of Angel: a computer virus.  With the pilots unable to stop the new Angel threat, can the group of Ritsuko, Maya and Gendo be able to avert total disaster to the MAJI computer systems that runs the whole Geo-Front complex as well as possible damage to the Evangelions? 

On the other hand, SEELE is discussing the first half of the Angel invasion, and is studying NERV's performance on each situation.  What is SEELE thinking about NERV and Gendo Ikari?  Is hope even projected in the Dead Sea Scrolls?  Only one group knows, as stories intertwine, can humankind survive?

Misato Katsuragi...known to be a very open-minded, active person.  However, is Misato hiding something in her facade of being a NERV officer?  What is Misato's past, and how is she connected to Ryoji Kaji?  Beneath NERV HQ, what did Ryoji Kaji discover that makes him fear for his own life from NERV and SEELE? 

At the sametime, a new kind of Angel attacks Tokyo-3 using a new inverted AT Field.  Shinji, due to his own stupidity, gets sucked into the Angel's body.  With his energy and oxygen running out, Ritsuko figures that the only way to save Eva 01 is to blow off the Angel with N2 mines, which could kill Shinji.  Can Misato think of a better idea, before the bomb is dropped?

NERV announces the discovery of The Fourth Child: Toji Suzuhara.  As previous events flash before Toji's eyes, will he accept the responsibility of becoming the pilot of Evangelion Unit 03?  How will Shinji, Rei and Asuka accept the fact that a fellow classmate of theirs is also an Evangelion pilot like themselves? 

However, during the activation test of Unit 03, an Angel corrodes through the nervous system and takes control.  Wiping out the test center, Unit 03 turns to Tokyo-3 for it's assault.  How can Asuka, Shinji and Rei deal with this Angel, when a living human boy is still trapped inside the entry plug?

Once again, Shiji Ikari suffers from psychological breakdown, when he finds out Toji Suzuhara almost got killed when Unit 01 berserked.  This time, Misato can find no words to comfort the boy.  Shinji decides to leave NERV for good.  However, with the new Angel threat, how can a semi-operating Unit 00 and Unit 02 be able to stop it? 

With the Evangelion Unit 01 fully awakened, Shinji Ikari becomes one with the Evangelion.  Reaching a sych rate of more than 400%, Shinji is lost within the LCL fluid.  How will Misato and Ritsuko get Shinji out of the Evangelion Unit?  Is this all part of Gendo's new scenario, or is this part of the Dead Sea Scrolls?

Fuyutski is kidnapped by SEELE!  Forced by SEELE, Fuyutski tells the tale of the birth of the NERV organization and how the Evangelions started.  Finally, we are given a glimpse of the events that happened from before the Second Impact, until the events that happened to the attack of the Third Angel. 

A new atmospheric Angel attacks Tokyo-3.  Disobeying orders, Asuka Langley Soryu suffers from being mind-rapped by this new Angel.  She is forced to live her memories of her painful childhood.  With this, she cannot bear that she has lost another time to the Angels.  Can she ever be the same Asuka again?

With Asuka unable to destroy the shape-shifting Angel, Rei makes a great sacrifice to save Tokyo-3 and Shinji Ikari from total destruction.  However, Ritsuko shows Shinji and Misato something that will change the way Shinji looks at NERV.  How can Shinji face the truth, and how can he relate to his new found secret? 

The Fifth Child has arrived!  Kaoru Nagisa, mysterious, yet friendly.  Boasting of high synch-rate, Kaoru becomes Shinji's best friend.  However, with the threat of the Seventeeth Angel still around, what can Shinji do to protect NERV and Tokyo-3.  What secrets will Shinji uncover beneath the Geo-Front?

Notes:
  • Notice that the VHS series starts with Genesis 0:1.  So is there is 0:0?  Yes, there is.  In fact, Genesis 0:0 is a promotional VHS containing artwork and sketches of various Evangelion topics such as character designs, mech designs, etc.  Of course, this is only available in Japan.
  • We have contacted ADVision about their decision to release the Evangelion movies in the English dubbed or subtitled format.  Their reply?  No solid decision yet, however they do not have the rights to the movies yet.  According to some sources, they may not show the movie series at all.  What a shame!
