Viz Comics Press Release
San Francisco, CA (4/15/98)-In August '98 Viz Comics proudly presents Neon Genesis Evangelion Book Three, the continuation of the smash hit comic series by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto! Japan's biggest combination anime and manga hit of the last five years, as seen on U.S. home video from A.D.V. Films, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a surprising, controversial and powerfully psychological science fiction series which takes the familiar 'giant robot' genre into territory never seen before. In the year 2015, humanity faces a terrifying last judgment from mysterious giant "Angels." Half of the human race is dead, but within Tokyo-3 and the headquarters of the secretive organization called NERV, a handful of teenagers are trained to pilot the colossal superentities known as "Evangelions" and battle the Angels on their own terms. Book Three begins deep within NERV headquarters, where the colossal remains of the Fourth Angel are dissected, but the mysteries surrounding the inhuman entities only continue to grow. Evangelion pilot Shinji has another mystery on his mind: his fellow pilot Rei Ayanami, the girl known as the First Child. Who is she, and does Shinji's father care more about her than his own son? As the near-invulnerable Fifth Angel approaches Tokyo-3, the bonds of the two pilots will be tested in combat and sacrifice… In an unprecedented move for manga in English, Neon Genesis Evangelion is offered in two special monthly formats: regular, reading from left to right; and Neon Genesis Evangelion Special Collector's Edition, printed from right to left with original sound effects, exactly as first published in Japan. Comic connoisseurs have for years requested 'unflipped' manga in the original Japanese format, and now Viz Comics answers the demand. Both editions feature letter columns, fan art and background information on the series. Certain issues of Neon Genesis Evangelion also include full-color pages showcasing Sadamoto's lush watercolor artwork. Neon Genesis Evangelion Book Three, a six-issue monthly series, is written and drawn by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto from an original concept by Gainax. Each issue is 32 pages long and retails for $2.95 in the U.S. and $4.00 in Canada. |
