Episode 08: Asuka Strikes
     A girl arrives fully escorted by the United Nation's Navy. Her name is Sohryu Askuka Langley - this girl was the gifted "Second Children"; the pilot of the EVA-02. Immediately after she is introduced to Shinji, she sees him as her rival.

     If that wasn't bad enough, Misato's long time "friend" Ryouji Kaji was also along for the ride.  It seems that he also came from the third branch of NERV.  After all the greetings were said, Asuka immediately approached Kaji and asked him about Shinji Ikari.

     Kaji replied that Shinji was a gifted pilot, without prior training, Shinj's synch rate was well above the 40 percent minimum limit for battle.  Asuka was surprised and was determined to show off.

     "The EVA-00 and 01 was merely a prototype and test type from the development stage. The fact that it synchronized with untrained total amature like you is the living proof of that. But EVA-02 is different. This is the first true Evangelion, created for actual battle." 

     At that moment, another Angel attacks them. After seeing the fleet crumble upon the might of the Angel, Asuka tries to show off her skill to Shinji.  At the same time, Kaji, carrying out a delicate mission escapes by using a 2 seater plane.

     "Okay, I'm going after it, come on, you're coming with me!" 

     After she boards EVA-02 with Shinji, she activates it without authorization.  Without external power, Unit 02 will only last for 1 minute.

     "I'll show you my magnificent piloting skills!"

     Unit 02 launches and she plays hop-scotch across the Naval fleet, until she was given the energy cord for unlimited power supply.

     The Angel attacks furouciously, and despite all Asuka's confidence, EVA-02 is pulled underwater and is swallowed by it. Seeing their danger, Misato hatches a plan for counter attack that would turn the situation around. After they "fish out" both EVA-02 and the Angel using the Umbellical Cable, they send an unmanned battleship in and attack when EVA-02 opens Shito's mouth. Moments later, Evanglion and the Angel are pulled out and the battleship closes in... 

     "Come on, open, open, OPEN!!!" 

     As Asuka and Shinji's mind becomes totally focoused on the same thing, the synchro-rate is pushed up to the maximum level, and EVA-02 shows its true power.  

     The Angel blows up and Unit 02 arrives safely to its new home in Tokyo-3.  Ritsuko is impressed with the synch date results.

     Shortly after this event, Asuka transfers over to Shinji's school. 

     "Well, it was a great trip...I think this may be the reason why." 

     Kaji, returning to Nerv's HQ after the EVA-02's battle with the Angel, shows what he had brought along with him. 

     "The very core of the Humanity Complementation Project..." 

     "Yes... This is the very first human... Adam."

"Why are men so perverted?", asks Asuka when Shinji accidentally takes a peek.
 
Evangelion Unit 02 leaps from the ship's cargo hold to stop the aquatic Angel from destroying them.
