| Sensations fill the body
of Shinji Ikari. Painful sensations that tell him that his Evangelion is
hit by the energy blast of the Angel. He shouts in pain...he cannot move...his
mind is in panic. Suddenly he felt all of it go away...he faints inside
the Evangelion. But while he sleeps, the Angel begins drilling its way
to the underground facility of NERV headquarters.
With the defeat of Eva 01, Misato has to find ways to defeat this new Angel threat in Tokyo-3. Hyuga and Misato begin the proper countermeasures against the Angel. Even with a high powered mortal launcher, it did not even dent the Angel's AT field. Suddenly, it all occured to her. The use of a long range weapon against the Angel would be the only solution. She approaches Gendo with the idea and Gendo approves of it. It will only take time and Shinji to work... After several hours of rehabilitation, Shinji finds himself awake inside the clinic once again. Rei enters the room. Silence. Rei announces that Shinji is ordered to fight inside the Evangelion again...even though he almost lost his life the first time around. Shinji refuses, but then he accepts when he hears that Rei will be the pilot for Unit 01. Hours before the deadline, Misato is ready for the operation. The power generators are in place and the newly acquired Pulsitron Rifle is in position. It requires precision to aim and fire the weapon, and since Rei's synch rate isn't that high yet, Shinji must perform the operation with Rei as back-up and defense. "Why do you pilot this thing, Ayanami?" "Because, it is a bond." "You are strong Ayanami." "There is nothing left more for me...goodbye Shinji" Rei boards Unit 00 and so does Shinji. The operation is about to begin. The energy from the entire Japanese power grid is gathered to charge the pulsitron rifle that Shinji will use against the Angel. Shinji targets the Angel and fires. But the Angel fires back! Shinji's shot missed the target. Shinji begins to change the fuse and charges the rifle for a second shot. The Angel fires again! However, Rei blocks the blast. As Shinji waits for the rifle to charge up, he sees the special shield for Unit 00 melting...then Unit 00 itself begins to melt. Shinji then fires the second blast which this time penetrates the Angel's core. Shinji races to Unit 00's entry plug and checks if Rei is alright. He opens the hatch just like father...inside Rei is okay. "Don't say that there is nothing more for you and don't say goodbye when you leave for a mission...it's just too sad." Shinji starts to cry. "I don't know what to do or say at a time like this." "Just smile." And Rei smiles... |
