"He ran away.  I'm not surprised."

     Shinji wonders around town.  He thinks of walking away from Tokyo-3 and his father.  He thinks of going back to where he came from.  However, at this point it looks like he has second doubts on his decision.  Shinji begins to think on what to do.

     Meanwhile, in NERV headquarters, Misato and Ritsuko were talking about on what happened to Shinji.  Ritsuko explains it as "The Hedgehog's Dillema".  The more people want to become close to Shinji, the more he gets hurt.

     After wondering around for 2 days, NERV Intelligence Officers were able to find Shinji Ikari and he was escorted back to NERV headquarters.  Kensuke, who saw the whole event could see in Shinji's eyes the reluctance to be an Eva pilot and the pain it is causing him.  However he couldn't do anything.  He too was afraid.

     Back at NERV, Misato begins lecturing Shinji on his attitute problem.

     "The Eva is on standby.  Will you pilot it?"

     "You don't have anyone else who could.  Yes I will pilot it."

     "You don't want to do it, do you?"

     "No...I don't think I'm cut out for it."

     Misato gets angry with Shinji's attitute.  Misato tells Shinji that it is never good to pilot an Evangelion with a wrong attitute.  Misato warns Shinji that if he does not want to pilot an Evangelion, he can leave anytime he wishes.

     Shinji decides to quit as an Eva pilot and he leaves NERV.  Before he leaves on his train, Touji and Kensuke were there to say goodbye.

     "Sorry I hit you the other day.  It was a mistake.  My sister said that the Evangelion saved her."

     Shinji silently accepted the apology and walks towards his train.

     "I should be the one to apologize.  I'm a coward..."

     Misato rushes to the departure station where she arrives too late.  The train already left.  However, unaware to her, Shinji decided not to board the train.  He looks up to Misato with a smile.

     "I'm home."
