The emotional shock of
Shinji's mission as an Evangelion pilot makes its mark on his personality.
Shinji is suffering from emotional shock when he was exposed to the Evangelion
and its true form. Shinji becomes life-less, ordered like some sort of
slave who do not has the ability to what he wants to do. He blindy follows
his orders...without emotion...
"Put the target at the center and pull the switch..." Shinji begins what he should have begun if not the Third Angel arrived in Tokyo-3: training. Shinji is now being taught the proper usage of the Evangelion and the armament buildings that supply the Evangelion with fire power. At the same time, Shinji begins to go to school. However, he keeps himself isolated: he does not have any friends. Misato gives Shinji a cellular phone in case Shinji might use it, but it never rings. When Shinji's classmates begin questioning the coincidence of the arrival of the new student Shinji Ikari and the arrival of the Humanoid Fighting Machine Evangelion, they suspect that Shinji could be in some way related to all this. When classmates bluntately ask him if Shinji was indeed the pilot, he answers a yes. This answer will cause him more trouble than before. Enter Touji Suzuhara: a classmate of Shinji and whose best friend is Kensuke Aida. Upon hearing Shinji's answer he feels as if he was ready to explode with anger. Touji's sister was badly hurt during the battle of the Evangelion and the Angel. Since Touji loved his sister very much, he feels that he has the responsibility to make the ones responsible pay. Shinji was gifted by an uppercut to the face. "I said, they made me pilot that stupid thing!" While lying on the floor, another warning comes out. Another Angel is approaching Tokyo-3. Rei Ayanami warns Shinji and goes to the base before Shinji. Shinji, reluctantly goes to the base himself. "Father's not here, so why am I doing this?" Shinji starts to question the decision he has made about piloting the Evangelion. However, the new Angel did not give Shinji the time to think, it struck the Evangelion with its razor sharp tentacles. Shinji could not do anything. He was beginning to be stricken with fear. He was in panic. He wanted to run away. Misato tells Shinji to retreat as they need to re-group on the situation and that the power cord of the Evangelion has been cut. Despite this fact, Shinji without thinking, charged towards the Angel. Drawing out his prog-knife, he was able to defeat the Angel just in time before the internal power was complete gone. When Touji saw the emotional shock that Shinji went through in piloting the Evangelion against the Angel he wanted to apologize. Touji picks up the phone and calls Shinji, but...the phone remains unanswered. |
