The Evangelion has no soul (AT Field). So the pilots must provide the soul for the Evangelion. NERV created copies of Rei, thinking that this would the easiest way to replicate the souls they needed. However, the copies of Rei do not have souls. They are merely dolls in shape of the human body. | |
