2 Plus 2 is 4 Today's the day for little second grader J.T. Boyd. His math team will recite the addition of two's to the whole class. If his four-student team scores perfect, they win four free tickets to watch a movie at the local Cinema 4 theaters. J.T. can't wait to see the movie "The Fantastic Four Dinosaurs." Before breakfast, he dressed up in his lucky clothes which includes a Michael Jordan basketball T-shirt, blue jeans, and a windbreaker. At the breakfast table with his mother, father, and his baby brother who is 24 months old, he ate a pancake, one piece of bacon and one piece of sausage, a forth of an orange, and drank three-forths of his milk. Before he left the house, J.T.'s mother wished him lucked and gave him two kisses--one on each cheek. Walking to school, J.T. was thinking about two's. He thought of the two's as if he was singing the song "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal: "Two plus zero is two; two plus one is three; two plus two is four; two plus three is five . . ." A bright, sunny day with no clouds up in the sky and the birds singing. J.T. used the singing of the birds as music to sing the two's. 4 minutes have passed since J.T. departed to school. Part of J.T.'s 8 minute route to school is walking a half block through downtown. J.T. always pass through the baseball card shop. This baseball card shop was filled with many cards ranging from baseball to football to hockey to basketball. He saw a Frank Thomas rookie card selling for $22.40. Although this particular card is not the most expensive Frank Thomas rookie card on market, J.T. really wanted to get the card. Before J.T. entered the card shop, he ended his two's with, "Two plus nine is eleven." J.T. then entered the card shop and immediately went to the Frank Thomas rookie card for $22.40. J.T. had $42.20 in his Batman wallet. (Why does he have that much money is something nobody knows.) He picked up the card and then brought it up to the counter for purchase. When J.T. was about to pay for the card, he recited the two's in front of the store manager: "Two plus zero is two; two plus one is three; two plus two is four; two plus three is five . . ." The manager was amazed and proud at J.T.'s knowledge of the two's such that he waved the tax on the card. J.T. really did not know what tax meant such that he gave the manager $22.40 anyhow. Once J.T. left the card shop, he was reading Frank Thomas' stats for the last four years. He read his batting average, home runs, walks, and runs batted in. Unfortunately, J.T.'s reading and memorizing Frank Thomas' stats might cost his team the grand prize of four movie tickets because when he entered the school halls he started to recite Frank Thomas' stats, not the two's. Oh, no. The school bell rang very sharply which gives the students the message that school has started and they must be ready to learn. J.T. entered his classroom--room 20. "Now class," said Mrs. Tally who is the teacher as the students sit down at their desks, "we will start today's adding contest. We will start with the two's. Now I know everyone here knows who to add by one's." J.T.'s group of two's comes in front of the class. The attentive students wait for his group to start reciting the two's. Ed started the four student team by saying, "Two plus one is two." Next comes, Mary who says, "Two plus two is four." Then comes J.T. who says, "Frank Thomas batted .333 in his first year at the Major Leagues." After saying that, J.T. wondered why the class is looking at him funny.
