Wishes Come True
Chapter 2 - Reality Strikes

"Mrs Chia, your cooking is fabulous."

"Oh, Kurama, it's nothing . . ." Adele's mother blushed.

Adele stared at her mother.
< Even mum blushes at Kurama's flattery . . .>

Adele's mother had long recovered from her initial shock. She had learned to accept things the way they were. Having 4 guests in her small, 5-room flat suddenly was unexpected, but Mrs Chia had a quick mind & quick hands. Before long, she had already prepared a huge dinner for her guests while Adele was set to the task of clearing & preparing the other 2 unoccupied rooms in the HDB flat.

< Luckily, dad's away on a business trip & elder brother is also aboard on a NS trip . . . otherwise, I wouldn't know where to put them to sleep! > thought Adele.

"Eh? What's this, Mrs Chia?"

Yusuke & Kuwabara poked & plodded at the dish in front of them with their forks.

"Aiyah, that's sweet & sour pork! Do try it! Very nice, very nice!"

Yusuke & Kuwabara stared at each other stupidly. Both of them each took a small piece of the pork & sampled it. After a few minutes' silence, Yusuke & Kuwabara looked at each other.

"Wow!! I've never tasted such a dish in my life!" exclaimed Yusuke.

"Yup, Yusuke! I'm er...too speechless for words!"

Yusuke & Kuwabara both attacked the pork with a vigour that was never seen before in all their previous battles. Adele almost dropped her spoon. A big single sweat-drop appeared at the side of her head. Mrs Chia, however, seemed quite satisfied.

"Ah? Where's Hiei?" Mrs Chia asked. "He's so short, he must eat more! Otherwise, how to grow tall?"

Hiei's share was left untouched at the dinner table. He had recovered from his 'encounter' with Mrs Chia & had disappeared precisely at the moment when Mrs Chia had finished her cooking.

"Don't worry, Mrs Chia. Hiei has his own way of sustaining himself."

However, Kurama looked at the kitchen window with a look of worry on his face.

< Hiei, where are you? >

Kurama had finished bathing. He looked at the clothes that Adele had given him. There was a shirt with a huge panda on it & the shorts had hearts & piglets all over. A big sweat-drop appeared on Kurama's head. He had no choice but to come out of the bathroom wearing that shirt & shorts.

"Kurama? You've finished? . . . you . . .look very nice, Kurama-san! I mean it really!" Adele tried to hide her smile.

Yusuke & Kuwabara had stood up when Kurama came out of the bathroom. They took one look at Kurama & burst out laughing. Suddenly, Yusuke had a serious look on his face. He went up to Kurama & patted his shoulder.

"Kurama . . .it must really be hard upon you . . .I am so sorry, I can only sympathise with you . . .Ha ! Ha! Ha!"

"Yusuke! Don't you dare tease Kurama! Yours aren't any better!"

Adele threw some clothes at Yusuke. He held a shirt up. It was red with flowery patterns all over & the words "Kiss Me" appeared everywhere on it. Kuwabara laughed even harder. Yusuke looked at the pair of shorts. It was bright pink in colour & had small rounded happy faces on it. Even Kurama could not resist a small smile. Before Yusuke could protest, Adele had pushed him into the bathroom.

Soon, Yusuke had finished & Kuwabara went in. 10 minutes later, he came out. He also had one of Mr Chia's weird-looking clothes on. But, he did not look as silly as Yusuke or Kurama.

< Maybe that's because he already looks silly> Adele thought.

Meanwhile, Mrs Chia was estatic. Her only son had gone abroad for National Service & all of the sudden, she seemed to have 4 more 'sons' to look after. And, all of them were better-looking than her own son, except for Kuwabara . Somehow, she felt drawn to Kuwabara. He behaved exactly like her own son. Therefore, it was not unusual that she treated him better than the rest.

Having finished their dinner & their bath, the Yu Yu Gang felt refreshed, and sat down for a chat before they went to sleep. Hiei had not come back yet & this made Kurama extremely worried.

"So, why don't all of you tell me what you were all doing before you came here?" asked Adele with an excited look in her eyes.

Kuwabara started grinning yet again.

"I... um . . .was out on a date with Yukina . . ."

At these very words, Hiei appeared & he sat on the TV set.

"Hn. Stupid ningen."

"What is it business of yours? You . . .you . . ."

"Shh!! Please continue your story, Kuwabara!"

Kuwabara snorted & tried to ignore Hiei as best as he could.

"I . . .was waiting for Yukina. We had taken a photo earlier on. She went to buy some ice-cream & I got some flowers for her... I was um . . .daydreaming . . .then, I felt as if I was sucked by some force . . .and before I knew it, I was here!"

Everybody stared at Yusuke next, with the exception of Hiei. Yusuke swallowed hard.

"Why are all of you staring at me like this? I've . . .nothing to tell . . ."

"I don't believe you, Yusuke. The minute I came here, I noticed a red mark on your cheek. Perhaps you could explain how that came about?" Kurama smiled coyly.

"Ai . . . why am I always the one . . .?" Yusuke sighed.

"Well... I... was... with Keiko. We... were having a wonderful time. Well, at least before I dropped in here due to some stupid WISH . . ." Yusuke glared at Adele who was whistling away.

"I . . .erm . . .Keiko kissed me right here . . .We were about to get intimate when I felt as if I was dropping into some hole. I jumped . . . and got here."

"Ooh . . .did you give her a lovebite?"

Yusuke, who had blushed an ugly red, stared at Adele.

"Little children ought not to know!"

" Hey! I'm going to be seventeen soon! I'm not a little kid anymore!"

Adele & Yusuke got up. Both of them started bickering. Kuwabara had eaten too much & was beginning to feel drowsy. Kurama smiled at the bickering pair.

"They've got on very well, don't you think so, Hiei?"

"Hn."

"Where have you been, Hiei?" asked Kurama in a gentle tone.

"Hn."

"Hiei, Mrs Chia has already prepared our beds. Won't you stay & sleep here?"

Hiei did not reply.

"Adele has told me that we would be sharing one room. Isn't that great?"

Hiei still did not reply.

"I take it that you've agreed, Hiei?"

Hiei, who had lots of things on his mind, turned his head slowly to look at Kurama.

"Kurama?"

"Yes, Hiei?"

". . . what are you doing in those clothes?"

Hiei's eyebrows were raised slightly as he stared unbelievably at Kurama's clothes.

< I always thought Kurama had a good taste in clothes . . . >

"Er . . . these belong to Adele's father... mine are in the wash..."

"Kurama, I've tried to search for a way out of this place." Hiei said in a low tone. "And all I see is crowds of ningens! I've tried the whole day, but there is not one clue to a way out of this place! I do not want to be stuck here forever. I want to get back to Makai."

"Hiei, please be patient. I am sure we'll be able to get out of here somehow. Meanwhile, take this as a holiday. You always push yourself too hard. Rest now while you can, okay?"

Mrs Chia came out of her room, humming happily to herself.

"Adele! Yusuke! I'm shocked at both of you! Quarrelling like children at your age! See, Kuwabara is so quiet, unlike both of you! Kuwabara? You must be feeling tired. Come, come, let me lead you to your room. Ah? Hiei? You are back! Still in that black garb of yours? Come, come, take a bath! You'll feel better!"

Hiei glared at Mrs Chia.

< No ningen has ever treated me like this before! Fussing over me as if I was some kid! >

"Ah? You don't want a bath? Never mind. Hiei, I heard from Adele that you are a great traveller & you like to roam. Here, here, keep this card. I made it especially for you! In case you get lost, you can always show this card to people & ask for directions!"

"Er... Mrs Chia... Hiei never gets lost."

"Never mind! Just keep! Just keep! Free of charge!"

Kurama took the card from Mrs Chia & gave it to Hiei. Hiei muttered something & took the card unwillingly. Then, he disappeared again.

That night, everyone was sound asleep. Not a creature stirred. Suddenly, the doorbell rang repeatedly. Each ring sounded loud & clear, waking every person within the household. Adele opened the door sleepily. On the doorstep was a wounded Hiei, with blood still gushing out of his wounds!
