Hotaru is a nice, quiet but weak girl.
She lives with her father Tomoe Souichi, and the housekeeper Kaori (real
name Kaorinaito), after her mother, Keiko's death in a fire accident when
Hotaru was still very young.
The Story In Sailormoon S
Hotaru should be dead at 9 years old.
Professor Tomoe Souichi and other scientists' experiment wasn't successful
and the lab blew up. Everyone was killed (including Hotaru who was
there) except for Professor Tomoe. When he found out that her daughter
was killed, he was very sad. But a light appeared in mid-air and
said that if he would sell his soul for them, his daughter will be alive
again. He'll do anything as long as Hotaru lives, so he agrees and
then he was posessed by a powerful daimon (to makes daimon eggs) and Mistress
9 inhabited Hotaru's body, who wanted to kill Hotaru's soul and completely
take over her body... because of an energy Hotaru has (probably because
Hotaru is Sailorsaturn) and they wanted this advantage. Their goal
is to awaken Master Pharoah 90 with the Holy Grail and destroy the world....
At the end, the daimon in Tomoe Souichi was killed, and he didn't know what happened since the explosion of the lab... After Hotaru/Mistress 9 swallowed Chibi-usa's heart crystal, Mistress 9 got rid of Hotaru's soul. Then Hotaru's body was transformed into Mistress 9. Then she even got the Holy Grail, and destroy it. Hotaru soul wasn't completely killed yet, and she wanted to save Chibi-usa and her father, so she fought back...and then Mistress 9 was killed. Then Hotaru turned into Sailorsaturn and gave the heart crystal back to Chibi-usa, and then sacrificed herself to save the world. She battled Master Pharoah 90. Everyone gave powers to Sailormoon so she could transform into Supersailormoon and battles Master Pharoah 90. Master Pharoah 90 was destroyed and Hotaru, who was supposed to be dead, reborns. Sailoruranus and Sailorneptune took care of baby Hotaru for Professor Tomoe Souichi. Later Chibi-usa discovered Hotaru wasn't dead....

Facts about Hotaru:
Hotaru has an amazing healing power.
She can heal wounds with her hands in seconds. However people feared
her because of her weird personality, so she has not so many friends. until
she met Chibi-usa. This was how they met...Chibi-usa's hat (Usagi's
mother gave it to her) was blown away, so Chibi-usa went after it.
Hotaru sitting in the park Chibi-usa running for it so Hotaru ran
for it as well and caught it before it went into the water. Then
they introduced themselves and became friends. Later that day, Chibi-usa
got a scratch on her kneecap, and Hotaru saw it so she used her healing
power and the wound was gone....Hotaru thought Chibi-usa would be scared
(of the healing power), but was surprised when Chibi-usa said that it was
so amazing...
Hotaru has another strange power that could protect her from enemies. When this power is used, a purple aura would surround Hotaru, and her eyes glow. The Saturn symbol would flash on Hotaru's forehead. This power blasts enemies away. I think this has nothing to do with Mistress 9, who possessed her body, because the symbol really means that she is Sailorsaturn.
