Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura
	Born as Kiyo Sokon in Shuri between 1797 and 1809 and lived to as late as 1901.  The later date of death is more likely as Soken Sensei recalled meeting the "old man" on a few occasions.  Upon his recruitment into the service of the royal family he changed his name to Matsumura.  He was the body guard and chief retainer to three of the RyuKyu kings.  It is said that he fought many battles and was never defeated.  Matsumura is credited as being the founder of Shorin Ryu and the progenitor of the Matsumura Karate Tradition.
