I. Mission Statement:
To provide support, education, and resources for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered Asians and their friends for the State of Oklahoma.
II. Objectives:
A. To provide a supportive and welcoming environment for social and educational events.
B. To promote an atmosphere of mutual respect, in which we can genuinely get to know people from different cultures.
C. To share our knowledge, skills, talents, and resources in mutual support of each other.
D. To raise the level of AIDS awareness and to urge responsible behavior.
E. To take the initiative of working together to achieve the mission of the organization.
F. To support gay programs in our community.
G. To make the group visible in the community, while providing confidentiality for members.
III. Name:
The organization will be known as Long Yang Club-The Asians and Friends of Oklahoma.
IV. Officers:
A. There will be four officers for the group: Business Chair, Social Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. Officers will be elected every May by majority vote of the members present.
B. Duties of Officers:
1. Business Chair's/President's duties include:
- Run business meeting
- Appoints committee chairs
2. Social Chair's/Vice-President's duties include:
-Back-up for the President
-Run social events
3. Secretary's/Treasurer's duties include:
- Meeting Minutes
- Keeper of the scrap book
- Keeps member profiles/security
- Accounts for income/expenses and financial reports to Business Meeting
- Responsible for cash handling
V. Voting:
The people eligible to vote are those who have met membership requirements, and have attended at least two business meetings or five social meetings the past 6 months.
VI. Committees:
Committees will be set up as needed by the officers.
VII. Membership:
To be an active member, a person must be current with their membership dues or have made other arrangements, and follow the mission statement.
VIII. Amendments to the Constitution:
Amendments to the constitution can be made by resolution passed by a majority of the members in attendance of the meeting. Members must be notified of the proposed amendments at least two business meetings before voting can occur.
