Aizusensou was the fourth battle in what is called the Boshinsensou. The Ishin government saw Aizu province as a threat to the government because Aizu would not bow down to the Ishin government. The people of Aizu, old and young, fought against the Ishin army, but were vanquished due to the overwhelming numbers of the Ishin army.
During the Bakumatsu No Doran a war was fought in Japan over whether or not to abolish the samurai cast system and adopt western ways of government and living. There were two sides who fought in the war, the Bakufu side which consisted of the samurai who did not want a western style government and living, and the Ishinshishi side which wanted to abolish the samurai cast system and adopt western ways. There were many other reasons behind the war, but this is just a profile of Kenshin...
Seijiuurou Hiko was originally the name of the founder of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu. If anyone was able to learn every strike of the schoool, he would become the successor and adopt the name "Seijiuurou Hiko". The aim of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu is to protect people from war and chaos but they did not side with anyone or party because they know that their involvement would turn the course of history. So when Kenshin first worked for the reformist, Seijiuurou forbidded it.
The Oniwabanshuu were the guardians of the Bakufu sides castles. Aoshi was the leader of the main group of Oniwabanshuu that guarded the Edo castle, which was the center of the Bakufu side. They guarded the castles in the shadows, so were given the name "Onmitsu-Oniwabanshuu" where "Onmitsu" means ninja.
Sekihoutai, also known as Red Report Army, was a group of armed peasants created by the Ishinshishi. The Sekihoutai were promised that if they got other peasants to support the side of the Ishinshishi, all peasants would get a decrease in taxes, and other benefits. However, when the Ishinshishi had won the war, they turned on the Sekihoutai and told the peasants that all the promises were just lies spread by the Sekihoutai. Using this as an excuse, the Ishinshishi hunted down and killed the Sekihoutai members. Sano is one of the only two known members to have survived
Shizoku was a fairly high-class distinction during the Edo era.
