Cymbidium Orchids

Cymbidium orchids are cool-growing orchids. The implication is that if you live in the San Francisco Bay, especially in San Francisco and Daly City, you will have amazing success with them in your backyard. Cymbidiums love direct sunlight and fog. Put them in a spot with some direct sunlight, but not during the midday, otherwise the leaves will be sunburnt. In addition, cymbidiums are heavy-feeders, and you will need to fertilize them regularly to obtain the best blooms. Snails are their greatest enemy, especially during the spiking period when the flower buds are emerging. Make sure they are protected from snails and the El Nino during that period. Good care during the winter months will reward you with spectacular blooming spikes.

Cymbidiums are divided into minatures and standards. The only diference is their sizes. Some people prefer the minatures because they take up less space. The first picture shown on top is a standard-size cymbidium, while the second picture is a minature-size cymbidium.
