My Pocket Watch Collection

Gorgeous M.J. Tobias with a flawless gilt dial and an ornate 18k gold case. 45 mm in diameter. Machine turned engraving on back with a small uninitialed shield. Dial has American eagle engraved on it. Key wind, key set movement is a standard swiss ebauche dating to ca. 1830-1850. M. I. Tobias was a well known watchmaker who made fusees in the early 1800's. By the mid 1800's he either started putting Swiss ebauche movements into incredibly ornate cases with fancy dials or else a Swiss company began marketing watches with a variation of his name [note that the name on this watch is M. J. Tobias instead of M. I. Tobias].

I basically traded with a friend for this watch. He collects railroad grade watches, and I prefer old keywind watches. So, I gave him a nice Bunn Special plus $100 for this watch. I'm not sure who made out better, but we're both happy....
