III Was Comfort House's System Peculiar to Japanese Army?
According to "Think of Anti-Napoleon" (written by Yoshihiko Morozumi), troops were permitted to carry comfort women in the 18th century. England troops were officially permitted to have six comfort women per a company in addition to a regular wife and Napoleon troops were permitted to carry four women per a battalion in the Italian front.
"The Complete Series of World Sex - the Fifth Volume - War and Sex " described "In World War I, there were well-equipped and flourish comfort houses for the Allied forces behind the western front, all French cities, Amiens, Rouen and so on. . . Customers were French soldiers, and Britain officers and soldiers. . . German army had certainly comfort houses for soldiers and officers in big cities, too." Moreover, German, Franch, Britain, and Russian Armies had controlled many comfort houses.
The situation during World War II did not changed. According to "Prostitution homosexuality self-damage - problems of German hygienic guidance 1939-45" written by Franz Seidler, German Army established many comfort stations controlled by themselves in occupied territories. When German Army established new comfort stations in the eastern occupied territories (mainly in Russia), the Nazis often abducted women in occupied territories and forced them into prostitution as the Nazis' policy because Stalin prohibited prostitution in Soviet.
According to Pulam Field's report, the U.S. Armed Forces and British Army took over comfort stations Italian Army controlled, and comfort stations continued their business to American and Britain soldiers under the U.S. and British Armies' control in the North-African front.
"History of World War II" written by Department of Army Surgent in U.S. Army refered, "After Sicilia island's occupation, U.S. army took over comfort stations (including comfort women and comfort house's system) managed by German and Italian Armies and Army surgents and MP regulated them. In 1942, U.S. Air Force established comfort stations for Swhennote flying corp's crews in Kunmin and called Indian comfort women from India. (According to "Reminiscences of individual adventure the first volume investigating history" written by Seodore White)
Most U.S. troop actually adopted free love's style. Most U.S. soldiers were allowed to take a rest at areas behind the fronts for some times to comfort themselves. However, this was taking care of war's neurosis rather than prevention of rape in the front. It was due to World War I's lessons which poison gas, tanks, and submarines appeared on the fronts. U.S. army had experienced all kinds of horrible weapons. On the other hand, Japanese Army had not experienced them except some submarine wars. Japanese soldiers did not experience neurosis during World War I. American styles were not established in order to exterminate prostitution. U.S. soldiers were best customers of prostitutes because they were very generous and had enough money.
