IV)Comfort women had freedom of going out.

Professor Yoshimi insists comfort women didn't have freedom of going out.
First, "Regulation of Asia Kaikan, the first comfort station at Iroiro, Phlippine" described that the troop stationed at Iroiro banned comfort women going out except specified areas, and they even could walk only for two hours a day.
Second, they could take a holiday only once a month in Yama 3475 troop's comfort house at Okinawa.
Third, comfort women were allowed to take a rest only during daytime on Saturdays in Masubate island, Philippine.
Fourth, "Japanese Prisoner of War Interrogation Report No. 49" reported that they were only allowed to go shopping in the towns. A permission system existed in comfort houses, instead of going out freely.

However, comfort women surely had a freedom of going out.

First, many guerillas ran wild in Philippine under Japan's occupation. The troop stationed at Iroiro prevented comfort women from going out except specified areas without permission not because of confinement but defence. This case was an exception.

Second, a troop prevented comfort women from going out except specified areas without permission for social morals. "The No. 58 Bulletin of Sekihei-dan" (Okinawa, on 21 September 1944) told people in village requested to do so because a school was near the comfort station. This case was also an exception. Most comfort women could go out freely.

Third, comfort women were only allowed to take a rest during daytime on Saturdays at Masubate, Philippine. "Regulation of a Serviceman's Club at Mabasute" just told the whole comfort house was closed for a medical examination of comfort women daytime on Saturdays. It did not tell comfort women's personal holidays.
Yoshimi intentionally confuses their holidays and the whole comfort house's holiday.

Fourth, "Japanese Prisoner of War Interrogation Report No. 49" told comfort women enjoyed themselves by participating in sport events with officers and men. They attended picnics, entertainments, and social dinners. They had a phonograph. They were allowed to go shopping in towns. Sport events, picnics, entertainments, and dinners were not supposed to be held by Army's order. Participating in private entertainments, especially the action of going out, was not forced by anyone. As far as this document told, comfort women had a freedom of going out.

Finally, "Report of Item About the Second Repatriates in Celebes Civil Administration - A Report on an Investigation About Facilities of Prostitution - Lifestyles of Prostitutes" described comfort women who were controlled by garrison at Parepare (place's name) served customers only during office hours, and comfort women were free during their time. Comfort women who were controlled by garrison at Parepare learned hygiene and a sewing machine once a week. They could take a rest every Sunday.

Moreover, comfort women who were supervised by the second headquarters served customers only during office hours. They were free in other time and they could take a rest two days per a week. Besides, those who were supervised by Celebes civil administration had a freedom of activity and taking a rest.

V) Japanese Government Regulated Some Illegal Brothel's Dealers.

For example, Japanese brothel's dealers who deceived fifteen women as their jobs were housemaids or salesgirls took from Nagasaki to Shanghai to make prostitutes at the Navy's comfort houses were accused of abduction at the Supreme Court in 1937. Moreover, a Korean who deceived his wife and took her to China to make her prostitution was accused of abduction.

"The cases how to handle the women who would make a voyage to China" mentioned that they must return their countries just after the temporary contract was over, or they didn't have any reasons to go on prostitution after government office or prefectural governor issued ID cards for comfort women. They had to appear at the police in person to apply for ID cards.

When the police issued ID cards for the women, they had to confirm whether they got their parents' consent or not. Women without their parents required consent of her master. If she did not have anyone who would make a consent, the police has to research whether her insistence is true or not. When the police issued ID cards for the comfort women, the police have to research their contracts and backgrounds to prevent from kidnapping.

If comfort women followed these procedures, they must have known they would become prostitutes. Japanese government only permitted a voyager with a passport and a certification by the Army. If comfort women were deceived and forcibly sent by brothel's dealers, they did not have a passport and a certification of the Army. She would become an illegal voyager, but Japanese government strictly regulated those illegal voyagers. "Cases how to regulate bad pimps who would make a voyage to China" told a man or woman without a legal passport must not go abroad.

"Hankou comfort stations" written by Ken'ichi Nagasawa told a woman who would make a voyage to China protested to become a comfort woman because she had promised working at "Kaigyou-Sha," a Japanese veteran organization. As a result, the Japanese authorites gave her another job.
