			Why do most people love animals? They shower us with kisses, they can't wait to see us walk through the front door, they roll around on the floor with us or sit contentedly on our lap or at our feet. They make us feel like the most important person on earth. They give us unconditional love - unfailing forgiveness, unquestioning trust and leisurely snuggles - otherwise known as pet therapy. Animals act as our therapists without charging $100 an hour. They act as ministers by soothing our souls. They are heroes that save our lives and our sanity. They are healers, teachers and friends.
			Dogs have been described as the "Gods of Frolic". In short, they encourage us to play, be silly, and act as wacky as we like. Animals bring out the child in us. We dress them up for holidays, we throw birthday parties for them, we tease them, play jokes on them, take them on vacations and shopping in pet stores and sometimes we take them to work with us. We cook for them, we talk to them, we baby them and, truth be known, most of us sleep with them. Unlike most people, they let us be ourselves. We can let our hair down around them and drop all our pretenses - they accept us, warts and all. They amuse us, make us laugh, are always glad to see us and have unlimited time for us. They draw out the best in us and give us cause for joy and celebration. In short, they make us feel good and we simply adore them for it.
			Animals are living examples of grace. They don't smoke, drink, or take recreational drugs. They're generally happy and cheerful. They don't complain about their problems. They are patient and long suffering. They eat the same food every day, with gusto! They don't gossip. They don't blame or accuse and are quick to forgive or overlook an offense. They aren't impressed by economic status, but with kindness. They aren't prejudice against creed, colour, religion or politics. They sleep soundly. They love without limit. Like people, animals have their many flaws and problems - but if treated with kindness most animals are willing to love, cooperate and work with their fellow creatures. They have much to teach us about goodness, simplicity and grace.
