For some inexplicable reason, in both the cut and uncut versions the title is changed from the original "Return to Forever" to "Return to Eternity." You might be thinking it's a matter of translating differently since "eternity" and "forever" are similar words, but the thing is that the title was in English originally! What the hell is the point of exchanging one English word for another? It's not like the original word was offensive, or too Engrishy for English speakers to understand. Though the OAV was otherwise pretty well done, I must say this is one of the most nonsensical changes of the series, TV series included. The only possible explanation I can think of is that maybe there are copyright issues or something, but I kind of doubt that. It's just an example of wacky editing in an otherwise mostly well edited show.
Heero: "Wufei, tell me, how many more people must we kill? How many more times must I kill that girl and her dog?" Heero "creatively" varies his dialogue changes, using "destroy" to replace the first "kill" and "lose" to replace the second.
Quatre: "You fought this many without killing one soldier." "Killing" became "destroying." Yeah, I didn't kill one soldier....I killed one million! Bwa ha ha! Bwa ha ha ha....oh, right, they're pacifists now :P
Duo: "Let's only take the weapons and the war itself along with us to hell." "With us to hell" became "for the ride." Whee, it's fun riding in this handbasket!
Quatre: "If we were fighting to kill, we'd have been done long ago." Forget creativity, "kill" once again was changed to "destroy."
Dekim: "Who the hell are those people?" This line was changed to "who are they?"
Heero: "I've killed Mariemeia. I'll never kill anyone ever again." The "killed" was replaced with "destroyed" and, just to piss me off, the "kill" was replaced with my least favorite wussifiction "hurt" :P
Edits
The shootings of both Mariemeia and Dekim were edited to remove all blood, but, amazingly, no footage was cut out. I was kind of surprised, since these shootings were a bit brutal, but apparently it can only be offensive if they bleed :P
In General
"How'd they get away with that?!": Interesting to note that after Mr. Nameless Soldier shoots Dekim he says "I've executed Dekim." Hmm, so I guess they once again decided that "execute" was OK, even though they sometimes edited it out in the past.
So that's the end of the Endless Waltz (wait, isn't that an oxymoron?) And it's also the end for the episode comparisons (until I get my hands on the cut versions of the episodes I don't have yet). It's been fun, sometimes wacky, sometimes frustratingly bizarre, but now it must all come to an end. Sailorspazz, out!
