Fushigi Yuugi

The Universe of the Four Gods

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Action, Drama.

The basic story behind Fushigi Yuugi is about a girl named, Miaka. She gets transported into a book called 'The Four Gods Sky and Earth' or translated to English as 'The Universe of the Four Gods'.

I have to say I'm not giving a full review on it (all reviews will be general and from the first episode the character joins in). If you don't want to know too much about Fushigi Yuugi (which I would have preferred because it's much more exciting that way!) read up to the *** ,okay?! I know these are meant to be spoiler free pages but you really can't review it to be spoiler free at all if you want the best out of it!-SORRY!!!

First thing, if you're looking for the fan subs ,be sure to understand some basic Japanese(although notes should be given in the end credits for what they mean).

Fushigi Yuugi consists of 52 TV episodes screened in Japan and 2 OAV's. Also Fushigi Yuugi is a manga created by Watase Yuu. The first OAV's were used as a bridge in a way between the the TV episodes and the 2^nd OAV. However the first OAV's is not included in the manga at all. (It was created by the people who drew the TV episodes.). The 2^nd OAVs takes off from where the TV episodes left off in the manga. But the really bad thing is that from the manga they cut out all the SD bits which means it's not funny much- but still enjoyable!

(If you don’t know what SD bits are they are when characters change into minature replications of themselves and act like idiots) ***

Here are some basic reviews on each main character.

Miaka's role is basically described above. Her character given such an important role is quite different from which one should expect. She eats a lot and almost anything in sight and it's not unusual for her stomach to betray her duties. Always seems to be happy.

Yui is Miaka friend back in the real world, which also gets transported, into the book. They are considered to be best friends.

Tamahome is one of the 7 seishi's or constellations that Miaka has to gather to call forth Suzaku. She meets him as soon as she arrives in the book. His abilities is from a character on his forehead(which all 7 seishi have to distinguish themselves from seishi's in other countries i.e. North, West or Southern seishi's) The character means 'ogre' (or in Chinese ghost) and he draws power from this.

Hotohori the second seishi she comes across. Hotohori's character is found on the neck and means 'star'. Hotohori's powers however are in the art of the sword.

Nuriko is one of the princesses in the Konan country. The character is found on the chest and means 'willow'. Nuriko possesses the power of superhuman strength (able to lift very, VERY heavy objects!).

Chichiri is a wanderer and you don't get to see Chichiri until into the series a little bit more than the first 3. Chichiri has the character 'well'(i.e. that hole in the ground - you know) on the knee. Chichiri's powers are reallyunknown except he does know some magic. He has a tendency to say 'no da!' on the end of sentences.

Tasuki is the next seishi to be found and can be described as hot headed. He is also a bandit. Tasuki has the character 'wing' on his arm near his wrist. Tasuki owns a special fan that can produce fire and this is used as a weapon.

Mitsukake is the healer of the group. Mitsukake is the quiet one but also one of the nicest. Tama is Mitsukake's cat and comes in and makes an appearance quite a lot. Mitsukake's character means 'rare cart' and is situated on the palm.

Chiriko is the youngest of all the Suzaku seishi but I think the smartest. Chiriko's power is brain power!! But it is very useful. Chiriko's character means 'stretching' found on his foot. The anime don't discribe his character very well though but I still love him!

Amongst the Suzaku are the Seiryuu. The Seiryuu people come from the country Kotou. The Kutou country is waging war upon the Konan country and that's why it's important to call forth the god. One of the most popular (or important) seishi for the Seiryuu is Nakago. I only tell you one thing - he's manipulative and I personally don't like him.

Nakago is only one of the 7 seishi for Seiryuu but you get to see them all eventually!!! However he is the main character for the Seiryuu seishi,
