All
You Need to Know (or More) about Izumi Maki and her adventure
in Nadesico
Since I'm a big o' lazy bum, I shall dissertate
about Izumi Maki and Nadesico in a Q
and A fashion, and jumping
around ideas erratically so you can't understand it easily. You
can also submit
more Qs to me, so it's more
flexible anyway.
Question
about Izumi Maki
Q: Who's Izumi
Maki? Why sometime people call her Maki Izumi too?
A: Izumi Maki
is the third of the three Aestivalis pilots introduced in episode
4. She's physically characterized by her long black hair (covers
her left eye most of the time) and having a very weird expression
on her face. Even more notably, she's the character who throws
weird puns (or tends to just say few disjointed words) during
certain times. Her familiy name is Maki and her "first name"
is Izumi. It is customary in Japan to list and say people's names
last name first, so often times you'll see Maki Izumi instead
of Izumi Maki. On this page, I shall list all names first name
first. (There is also another reason, but you'll have to find
that out yourself)
Q: What's so
interesting about Izumi? I find her just plain weird.
A: Well, she
is definately a weird individual. However, for some of us in the
club, she is appealing because she is weird. It should be also
noted she has a very off-focused sense of humor. What do I mean
by that? Tell you the truth I don't really know. Seriously speaking,
Izumi exist purely for her comedic purposes. Certainly there are
a few moments where she plays a serious role, but that's not what
she's known for. IMO, she's a lame yet creative character. Innovative
but lack dimensions. She has depth but no development (well she's
a minor character, so). Don't bother asking us why we like Izumi,
because our answers are probably going to make less sense to you
than the average line Izumi spits out.
Q: So why do
you like Izumi?
A: Read the
question above. But if you insist we can tell you, but then we
have to kill you. That's one thing about fanclubs nowaways. Too
many follows the 'Apple Jack' example of fanclubship. That's just
pathetic. More pathetic than Izumi's puns. I mean if you say "so
and so is cool" at least that makes some sense but that goes
without saying....unless you are a fan of a not-so-cool character?
(now that may apply to some of Izumi's fans)
Q: I don't
understand what you're trying to say.
A: Ask me again.
Email me or something. Learn C++ and play with pointers. Use 50
Q-tips and try to slay a chicken with them. Take a jar of pasta
sauce and play hackeysac. Ask someone smart. Tie a mouse to the
tail of a cat. Run 10K backwards. Some/all of them may have enlightening
purposes that might help you solve your problems.
Q: So how many
puns did Izumi say during the whole series?
A: Unfortunately
no one is dedicated enough to find out. Do realize that it's hard
because one needs to be in sync with the pop/current Japanese
culture to get all her puns, as we suspect that there are many
subtle references to the pop Japanese culture. Maybe you'd like
to find out yourself??? =)
Q: So are you
just losers who are trying to be "new"?
A: What do
you think? Quotes Ruri: "Honto, baka baka."
