Yay! I'm a h0!
Today was the pilgrimage to San Jose to pick up my magazines (ever notice I mostly blog when I got new stuff? oh well). Anyways, on with the show!
I was going to archive, but volume 1 of Lagoon Engine is out (they didn't have the special edition one, not that I really need it) and I got that, so I decided to stick with the theme. It has the cutest cover ever. It reads much better when it isn't months (or over a year) between chapters, so if you're interested, buy the tankubon. Also there is a note in Asuka 3 that there will be something from it in Asuka 4, so I guess it hasn't moved entirely to the new magazine.
Ha. I'm a sick addict. I got Hikaru no Go 2. I still hate go. I still hate Hikaru and want to smack him. However Kaga amuses me and I have this obsessive need to find out what happens to Akira. I want to know if Akira figures out what's up with Hikaru! I want to know if Akira EVER GETS REAL PANTS! (On a related side note, I need a fic where Akira is a girl who masquerades as a boy because of his father's obsessive need for an heir.)
Asuka 3 includes Clamp proving once again that Lawful Drug is their gayest manga ever. All you have to do is look at the color plate to figure that out. Other than that, not much worth noting unless you want X spoilers (ha! someone dies!)
This month's fix of Shounen Shinkaron Plus involves Mizuki/Naoki in drag. I giggled. Haven't had time to read everything in Crimson yet.
And just to prove that manga isn't the only thing I read, last night I trolled the Clamp section at ff.net. Here are my picks (these are chosen from the ones I read, there's a lot of wish fic, clover fic, and CCD yaoi/shounen ai that I did not read).
Tokyo Babylon in Twenty Seconds The title says it all, it's worth a snerk.
Nemuitteru kimi The only Lawful Drug fic. I was surprised by how good it was. The plot fits well with the manga and the characterizations aren't too far off. I was expecting OOC twue wub fics for LD.
A Harmless Night Worth reading if only for the line Akira's eyes lit up, "I've never made a dinner in a ninja's kitchen before!"
A Very Blurry Evening A drunken Duklyon fic (there's lots of them). Instead of resulting in sex or twue wub, this one however has a bitter Kenpi telling Takepon how he feels and asking for an answer. It's sweet, but more believable than most.
Secrets Not Well Kept This made me die laughing because I can see the situation happening. It's really funny.
Training the Newbies Also made me die laughing. Gen Duklyon fic covering some of the "secrets" to surviving as a Clamp Campus Special Guard.
It All Changes More Duklyon fic (can you tell I like Duklyon?). A cute fic about Takepon having to cope with Kenpi moving on with his life.
There's other fics in the section that I didn't read, mostly because the description didn't appeal to me, so I can't necessarily say these are the best, but these are my favorites of the ones I read.

Two quick reviews.
First things first, I got the new Shiina Ringo single, Stem - Daimyou Asobi Hen at Kinokuniya last night. The first track, Meisai, is pretty good, very traditional blues/jazz, the second track, Stem, isn't bad, but think Broadway musical, and the last track, Ishiki, is kinda like...easy listening jazz with flute and I hate the flute. Overall, not nearly as good as the Mayonaka wa Junketsu single, but that one was something of an exception in cd buying, Steph and I watched the video and turned to the clerk and immediately demanded the cd.
Next review type thing, I bought vol 1 of Hikaru no Go because I figure if I'm going to read Akira/Hikaru fics, I should read at least some of the manga (that and the fics made me forget I really do NOT like this manga).
I still hate Hikaru no Go. Primarily for two reasons:
1. Hikaru annoys me. He's a brat with no real redeeming qualities. Okay, so he's typical for a boy his age, but I don't like children and he annoys the shit out of me. He's rude and lazy and not even all that nice to his friends. I want to kick him.
2. I don't like go. This probably is because I either am really bad at strategy games or I don't have the patience for them (if you watch me play chess, I tend to play a very defensive game and move purely in reaction to my opponent, I'm a horrible player). I'm not sure which it is, but probably a combination of both. Suffice to say the game doesn't interest me.
Given those two facts and the title, is it any wonder I don't like the manga? Not that I'm going to stop reading the fics. I've spent very little time being a truly shallow fangirl who doesn't know the source worth spit, I'm entitled to this one.
Side note: If a website is really important to you and has enough visitors, you ought to be willing to pay enough money to set it up properly rather than moving around trying to fix problems that can't be fixed the way you're running it.

Sometimes people really out do themselves.
Today I went to Kinokuniya in San Jose to pick up magazines. Again I am thwarted in my quest for Jrock because they did not have the new Pierrot single. They didn't have the new Shiina Ringo single either, but that's not a surprise, it's only been out for two weeks and shipping time is usually 3 weeks.
Anyways, outdoing themselves. The japanese never cease to amaze me with their ability to produce fubar. I found this ad for a manga in the back of my February Asuka and wow is it special. Not only does the engrish say "KUROSAGI delivery service of corpses" but one of the characters (staff E') is listed as "muppet". Wow, it's just so special.
Also outdoing themselves is CLAMP. Lawful Drug is setting up to be their Gayest Manga Ever. Yes, gayer than Duklyon, gayer than Wish, and hell, CCD, TB and X aren't even in the running. The furoku was a supremely gay clearfile, and in the chapter itself circumstances set up so that Kazahaya says that Rikuou is his bride. Also of note on the CLAMP front, Kamui and Fuuma seem to be getting down to buisness with tattered sheets and shinkens and hopefully X will be ending soon.
Also got Bleach 6 which has some lovely Quincy Archer hating of me and I am feeling sated. We also see him as a little kid, and boy did he look like a twit. I was oddly tempted by the Hikaru no Go artbook, but I restrained myself on the grounds that I don't have the manga and mostly I'm amused by the slashy slashy fics.
During my nap this afternoon I had a dream that managed to combine Hikaru no Go, Bleach, Highlander and (of all the odd things) celebdaq. No I don't remember much about it except Ichigo was apparently an immortal and Duncan was chasing him for some reason. None of it made sense, just all the elements were there.
Nothing else I have to say will make any sense to me even.

I have not forsaken thee.
...And now I wait for kristi to spank me for bad slightly archaic English.
Despite what you may have wished, I am still alive. The holidays did not succeed in their wicked plans to kill me! If you really want more details for what I've been doing with my life, you can read my rather shallow posts at my livejournal, otherwise, here it comes in list form.

New classes this semester
1. English 4: It's a lot of reading and we're studying "Death of a Salesman" for the THIRD TIME IN MY LIFE, which I've decided isn't as bad as the other section which is reading Toni Morrison (DoS depresses me because it hits a little too close to home, Toni Morrison on the other hand makes me feel like scum for being born white)
2. Women in US History: I like the teacher, I like the no homework, it counts toward my major.
3. College Algebra: so I should be in calculus, but this transfers, I know everything already, and the teacher is a really sweet guy.
4. History of California: Supposedly they teach you this before you enter high school, so far everything has been new to me though, interesting class.
I've been reading a lot of traditional oral stories and sagas (dude! that's a palindrome!) since fall term ended and I've noticed something. People killed each other for all sorts of reasons like: "He insulted me!" "I wanted his kingdom!" "I wanted to marry his wife!" etc. In Beowulf, Unferth is damn lucky to get off with just being made to look like an idiot.
And finally...the image. It's from a postcard set that came with Asuka some time ago. The series is Lagoon Engine by Yukiru Sugisaki (better known for D.N.Angel and Megami Kohousei). It's about two brothers Ragun En and Jin (yes, the title is a terrible bilingual pun) who are kinda like uh...onmyouji. Recently it seems Kadokawa Shoten has tried to start a new magazine with fantasy type series in it, and Lagoon Engine has vanished from Asuka and according to the ads is in this new magazine.
