Author’s Note: Konichi wa! And welcome to the first episode of “The
Betrayal.” Just to clear some stuff up, I had to make up my own NegaVerse
creep, because I’ve only seen up to the first couple of episodes of Sailor
Moon R, and don’t know Alan and Ann well enough to put them in a story, yet.
(Sorry) But anyway, I had better shut up now and get on with the story
before this little note becomes a page long! C-ya! (Sailor Moon is not an
original character of mine, she belongs to many large corporations, and to
the original creators, blah, blah, blah, yackity, smackity, and all that
other legal babble.) Buh-bye!

   THE BETRAYAL
     Episode 1: A New Enemy
           BY: Sailor Black Hole

A deafening sound reverberated through the night, followed by unholy
laughter, shattering the calming silence like a window. Throughout the
city, six girls sat straight up in bed, as if sensing the evil. One, a
pig-tailed blond picked up the phone and dialed the number of one of her
best friends.
“Hello?” The girl’s voice answered on the other end.
“Lita? It’s me, Serena. Did you hear that?”
“Sure did. What was it?”
“I don’t know, but I’m scared!” Serena whined.
“Don’t be such a baby! It was—probably nothing—just our imaginations.”
“Both if them?”
“I dunno! It’s 2:00 in the morning! Do you think I can think this—hold
on.” Lita replied as her phone beeped, “Hello?”
“Lita?” The voice replied, “It’s me, Raye. Did you hear that?”
“Yeah, Serena just called me. She’s on the other line. Let me put you on
three-way, hold on.” Lita pressed a button on her receiver, “There.
Everybody hear me?”
“Yeah,” Raye and Serena chorused together.
“What do you think it was?” Raye asked.
“We don’t know.” Lita answered.
“Do you think it was the NegaVerse?” Serena asked, her voice trembling.
“How should I know?” Raye answered, “But if it was we’ll—hold on, someone’s
beeping me.” She pressed the ‘flash’ button on her phone. “Hello?”
“Raye? It’s Mina.” A girl’s voice replied, “Did you hear that noise?”
“You heard it, too?” Raye asked.
“Yeah.”
“One sec., I ‘m on three-way with Serena and Lita, let’s see if we can all
talk.” She pressed ‘flash’ again. “Is everyone here?”
“Yeah.” Three voices chorused.
“You all heard it, too?” Mina asked.
“Yeah!” Serena replied, “But my parents didn’t wake up, and Sammy’s usually
a light sleeper, but I haven’t heard—“ her phone beeped, “hold on.” She
pressed a button, “Hello?”
“Hi, Serena? It’s me, Amy. Did you hear—“
“Hold on.” Serena replied, sighing. She pressed another button. “Are all
five of us here?” She asked.
“Yeah.” The others chorused.
“You all heard it?” Amy asked.
“Yeah, did anyone else in your house?” Lita inquired.
“No, I don’t think so. Everyone’s still in bed.” Amy answered.
 “This is mega-weird!” Mina declared.
“I know! Does anyone think that it’s the NegaVerse?” Lita asked.
“I don’t think so.” Raye replied, “But we’ll be ready if it is!”
 “Right!” The girls chorused.
On the other side of town, in a small, almost unfurnished apartment, the
sixth girl lay back down hesitantly. She stared at the ceiling, unable to
close her eyes for a long while, even after the other five had gotten off
the phone and gone back to bed.

Meanwhile, in a dimension not that far from our own…

An evil woman sat upon a black and twisted throne. She gazed intently into
a smoky crystal ball, unconsciously twirling a lock of dark green hair. She
grinned wickedly.
“Rick!” She commanded. Red light flashed and a tall man appeared. He
stepped from the shadows.
“You called, Queen Lyreb.”
“Yes. I have a mission for you, my minion. I want you to discover who the
Sailor Scouts really are, and once you do, I want you to bring them to me.”
“With all due respect, Majesty, how am I supposed to accomplish this task?
Why, even those serving under Queen Beryl—“
“NEVER speak my sister’s name in my presence!” Lyreb raged, “Beryl was a
fool, and was banished for her foolishness!”
“I am sorry, my Queen.” Rick replied, bowing, which caused a lock of long
black hair to fall into his eyes. He pushed it back into place.
“And as for you assignment. I have full confidence in you abilities. You
will think of something. You know the punishment for failure.”
Rick swallowed. Fear showed quickly in his deep green eyes.
“It has also come to my attention that a new scout will be discovered
soon. She should prove to be a valuable ally if convinced to join us. Find
her before the scouts do.”
“As you wish, Majesty.” He replied, and disappeared in a brilliant flash.

All was quiet in Serena’s classroom as the students stared at the girl in
front of the room.
“Class,” the teacher began, “this is Sydney. It is her first day, and I
want you all to make her feel welcome.” She scanned the room. “You can sit
in that seat there beside Serena. Serena, raise your hand, please.”
Serena obliged, and Sydney walked slowly down the aisle, her head down. She
sat in the vacated seat.
“Now,” the teacher replied, “if you will all turn in your textbooks to page
197…”
“Hi!” Serena whispered, “Where are you from?”
“England.” The girl whispered back in a slight accent.
“Really? Wow!”
Sydney smiled, shyly. Just then the bell rang signaling the end of the day
“I’m meeting some of my friends at the ice cream parlor, why don’t you
 come?” Serena asked, standing.
“O.K.” Sydney replied. They gathered their things, and walked out the
door.

When they got to the restaurant, Lita flagged them down from the table where
she and the other girls were sitting. Serena plopped down next to Mina.
Sydney stood back, uncertainly. Serena patted the seat beside her.
“Ca-mon, it’s O.K, they won’t bite.” She stated. She turned to the others,
“This is Sydney, she just moved here from England!”
“Wow!” Lita replied, “I’m kinda new here, too. I transferred last year,
and these are the best friends I’ve ever known. You’ll like it here.”
Sydney blushed, and sat down.
“Hey, guys, what’s up?” A voice broke in. The girls looked up.
“Darien!” Serena squealed, jumping up to give him a hug. Sydney’s dark
brown eyes grew wide behind her glasses. Darien smiled at her, once he
dislodged Serena.
“Hi, I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Darien.” He offered his hand, and Sydney
shook it slightly, not being able to speak. “I think you’re supposed to
tell me your name now.” He replied.
Sydney blushed, deeply, “Oh! I’m Sydney.” She said softly, not able to
take her eyes off him. He sat next to her, and Serena sat on his other
side.
“Darien, did you hear that noise last night?” Mina inquired. Darien looked
blank, “What noise?”
“Are we the ONLY ones who heard it?!” Raye asked,
exasperated, “My grandfather said he rested peacefully all night! So did
Chad!”
“I know! I asked Sammy and my parents, and they didn’t hear anything,
either!” Serena said.
 “Neither did mine!” Amy stated.
“Why do I feel like I’m missing something?” Darien asked,
“What did it sound like?”
“Like something exploded, and then some strange laughter.” Amy explained.
“Um, I heard it.” Sydney spoke up. Six pairs of eyes turned to look at
her. She blushed again, looking down at the table.
 “You heard it?” Lita asked.
“Yeah, it woke me up.” Sydney replied. “I couldn’t get back to sleep al
night!”
“Where do you live?” Darien asked her.
“Baker’s St. I live in those apartments down there. 19F”
“Hey, we’re neighbors! I live in 19G!” Darien replied.
“Really? I thought you looked familier. I think I saw you leaving this
morning.”
“And you’re sure you didn’t hear anything?” Serena interrupted, “You live
right next door to Sydney, and she heard it.”
“Not a thing.” Darien stated.
“How odd.” Amy murmured. Sydney looked at her watch, and stood.
“I hate to seem rude, but I have a lot of back homework to make up.” She
picked up her book bag.
“We’re all meeting at the arcade tomorrow, do you want to came?” Lita
asked.
Sydney blushed again. “Sure, but I don’t know where it is.”
“I’ll pick you up, we can go together.” Darien responded.
“O-O.K.” Sydney stammered, her face hot. She waved goodbye and walked out
the door.

Sydney rushed down the street. ‘What a day.’ She thought, ‘I can’t believe
I have friends this early! Maybe living here won’t be that bad.’ She ran
headlong into someone else walking along.
“Ow!” She exclaimed, dropping her book-bag. The stranger picked it up and
handed it to her. “Thanks.” She said, pushing her glasses back up on her
nose.
“No problem.” The man replied, “I should watch where I ‘m going.” Sydney
looked up, and was mesmerized be his intense green eyes. He pushed a lock
of long, black hair back behind his ear. “Um, I’m new in town,” he began,
“do you happen to know where the collage is? I’m supposed to start there
Monday.” He smiled charmingly. Sydney almost fainted.
“Sorry, I, uh, j-just moved here myself. I-I wish I could help you.” She
adjusted her book-bag on her shoulder.
“Oh, well. I’ll just look myself. I’ll see you around, then, bye!” He
started off.
“I hope so.” Sydney replied to his retreating figure.

A loud knock awoke Sydney the next morning. She groaned and rolled out of
bed, pulling on a robe as she walked. She opened the door.
“Did I come at a bad time?” Darien asked. Sydney felt her face grow hot
as she pulled the folds of the robe closer together, covering up the T-shirt
and boxers she wore to bed. She stepped aside to let him in.
“What time is it?” She asked, motioning him to sit down.
“Around 1:00” He replied, picking up a magazine.
“One! Oh my God! You must think I’m so lazy!” She called from the
bedroom. She pulled on a pair of jeans.
“Not really, Serena’s lucky if she gets out of bed by three.”
Sydney laughed as she pulled a dark grey sweater over her head. She stepped
out into the living room. Darien stood. “Ready?” he asked. She nodded
and opened the door and they stepped into the afternoon sun.

“How long have you and Serena been going out?” Sydney asked, as they walked
to the arcade.
“About three months, but it seems like we’ve kown each other forever.”
“I know what you mean.”
“What?”
“Ever since yesterday, when I met all of you, I’ve had this weird feeling of
déjà vu. Like, somehow, I had met you al before. Like I use to know you.”
“Same here, with you. Everyone had that feeling. We were all talking about
it after you had left.”
Sydney blushed again. “You were talking about me?”
“Only good things, believe me. Everybody seems to like you.” He put his
arm around her shoulders for a little squeeze. “I know I do.” Sydney
bushed for about the tenth time that day.

“Don’t you think that it’s weird that only we heard that noise the other
night?” Amy asked.
“You’re not still thinking abouy that, are you?” Lita asked, franticly
pushing the buttons on the game she was playing.
“I just think it’s strange, that’s all. I mean, I could understand if it
was just the five of us, but Sydney heard it.”
“That’s been bugging me, too.” Raye answered, “Plus the déjà vu we all
felt. Luna?”
The black cat looked up.
“Do you think that Sydney could be a scout?”
“It is very likely. Artemis and I have been informed that a new one will be
popping up soon. And that would account for the déjà vu.”
Just then, the door opened, and Darien and Sydney walked into the arcade.
Serena, who gave Darien a hug, intercepted them.
“Where were you?” Serena whined.
“Sydney acted like you and slept late.” Darien replied. Both Serena and
Sydney blushed deeply. Suddenly an ear-piercing scream rang out from the
street. Lita, Mina, Sydney, Serena, Darien, Raye, Luna, Artemis, and Amy
rushed out of the arcade to see what was happening.

A giant, cockroach-like creature was looming over a girl, dripping green
saliva all over her face.
“HELP! Somebody, please, help me!” She cried.
“We have to help her!” Lita hollered.
“How? What can we do?” Sydney asked.
The girls looked at each other, and then glanced at Darien. He nodded and
grabbed Sydney by the arm.
“Ca-mon!” He shouted, dragging her away from the others, “We’ll call 911!”
“But the others…”
“They can take care of themselves, ca-mon!”

Serena looked at her friends. “Let’s do it!” She commanded. She touched
her brooch. “Moon Crystal Power!” She shouted.
Amy raised her transformation pen. The other three girls copied. “Mercury
Power Transformation!” She declared.
“Mars Power Transformation!” Raye shouted.
“Jupiter Power Transformation!” Lita bellowed.
“Venus Power Transformation!” Mina called.
“Scout Power!” The girls shouted together. Serena faced the monster.
“I am Sailor Moon, Champion of Justice! I will right wrongs, and triumph
over evil! And that means you!”
The cockroach monster reared up on its hind legs and shot a glowing ball of
energy at the Scouts. They scattered, dodging it.
“Mars…Fire...Ignite!” Raye shouted, throwing a fireball at the monster. It
hit, burning off one of its hideous antenna. It shot another energy ball at
them.
“Venus…Crescent Beam...” Mina began.
“Jupiter…Thunder…” Lita stated.
“Smash!”
“Crash!”
A beam of light shot from Mina’s fingertip and hit the monster, just as Lita
electrocuted it. The smoke cleared, and miraculously, the monster was still
standing. There was a small flash of red light, and Rick emerged in front
of the arcade.
“Guys, we called 911…oh my God! The Sailor Scouts!” Sydney’s voice rang
out behind the girls. Amy turned at the sound. The monster raised one huge
leg, and knocked her to the ground. It loomed over her, dripping spit onto
her face.
“Sailor Mercury!” Sydney screamed. A gray, glowing circle appeared on her
forehead. Both Rick and Luna stared.
“The next Scout!” They both whispered at the same time. Rick made a
gesture with his hand and both he, and Sydney disappeared. Luna stood,
aghast. She turned to Artemis.
“Did you see that?” She asked.
“Yeah! Where did she go?”
“I don’t know.” Luna replied.
“Moon Scepter Elimination!” Serena shouted, and pointed her Scepter at her
cockroach. It exploded in a brilliant blast of light. Luna ran up to the
girls.
“Emergency meeting. Go to the temple, now!” She shouted, and ran off.

Sydney was frightened. “Where am I?” She whispered to herself. A light
flashed and she found herself staring at a black throne. Sitting on it was
a woman with long, dark green hair. Her yellow eyes glinted in the light.
She looked human, except for the horns growing out of her shoulders. She
addressed Sydney.
“You are in the NegaVerse, my dear. I am Queen Lyreb, ruler of it all. And
you are?”
“Sydney. If you don’t mind me asking, Your Majesty, what am I doing here?”
“Why don’t you know? You are the sixth Sailor Scout. Sailor Black Hole.
The most powerful of the Scouts.”
“But I thought Sailor Moon—“
“She is powerful, I admit, but you, child, control the powers of the mind.
That is stronger than the powers of the moon.”
“The NegaVerse, aren’t you the bad guys?”
Rick stepped from the shadows. Sydney gasped. “Told you that I’d see you
again.” He whispered. Aloud he replied. “That’s what they want you to
think. Really, we are the good guys. We only take the small amount of
energy needed for us to survive and prosper. We haven’t killed, yet. Can
the Sailor Scouts say the same? No. Why just today, they killed one of our
best men.”
“He was attacking that girl!” Sydney protested.
“He was only doing what he must to survive! After he had borrowed a little
energy from her, he would’ve left, and she wouldn’t have remembered a thing.
But the Scouts had to interfere, and he is now ‘moon dust’.”
“Oh.”
“But you, dear,” Queen Lyreb spoke up, “You can help us. All we want to do
is find out who the Scouts really are, and bring them here to explain our
situation.”
“How can I help you?” Sydney asked.
Queen Lyreb made a gesture over her crystal ball. A glowing, black
iridescent, marble, the size of Sydney’s fist appeared. Lyreb snapped her
fingers and the marble floated over to the girl. Sydney reached up and
gently took it. She felt power travel up her arm.
“Go on, try it out.” The Queen urged. Sydney tentatively raised her arm
and held the marble aloft.
“Black Hole Marble Power!” She shouted. Power surged through her. Her
clothes melted away, and a black prismatic cloud of vapor engulfed her. The
vapor formed a white leotard. Around her waist, a short black skirt
appeared. Long, white gloves materialized on her arms. Black combat boots
emerged from the fog. Two bows, a gray one in front, and a darker gray one
in back attacked themselves to the leotard. A silver tiara appeared on her
forehead, a black, iridescent gem in the center. The transformation marble
fastened itself to the center of the front bow. The vapor moved away and
Sydney stood, transfixed. She was aware of every sound around her, as if
her senses had been heightened. She realized at that moment that everything
Queen Lyreb had said was true. She was Sailor Black Hole. She flexed her
fingers feeling the power surge through her hands. She glanced at Rick, who
smiled, and then looked at Queen Lyreb.
“I will help you.” She replied. The Queen grinned, evilly.
“Then welcome to the NegaVerse.” She whispered.
