You don't see many kits of the YF-16 built and even less of the #2 prototype, most people opting for the flashier first prototype with the red white and blue scheme. I built this in 1982, and remember agonizing over the color mix for the light grey-blue.  In retrospect, I got it too "blue" although I still think it looks cool.   I also used Pactra Flat White with a couple of drops of light blue in it, to counteract the tendency for white paint to turn yellow. I guess it worked, it is still just as white today as the day I sprayed it.

I built this one waaaay back in my college days, somewhere around 1976 or so.  I used a Modeldecal sheet for VA-195 because it seemed everyone else was using the MicroScale sheet that had the multicolored tail feathers.   I have that sheet too, but I was driven to do something a little different and I still think this one looks better.

This one was done in the early 80's, and featured a scheme I saw in the book "Air Warfare". Decals for Communist China were by ESCI and the four-color camouflage colors were mixed to match the book's profile.  This kit gave me a lot of fit problems around the rear stabilizers, but I was finally able to get them blended in.  The nose cone took a lot of sanding as well, as I recall.

The decals are applied approximately, I don't even know if the Chinese used insignia in both wing top positions. The book only had a side profile, and since this was way back when, who knows if the colors are even correct.   It sure *looks* mean, though.
