There's a mess of trainers here! Wipe them out with advanced, traded Pokémon like Alakazam or Dratini. Go back & heal up at Pewter City if you get worn down by the staggering amounts of trainers. There are two bushes here- explore them well to find the rare Jigglypuff in Red/Blue, and the Sandshrew in Yellow. Hopefully you have an Escape Rope item. There's a good chance that you'll need it. There's a Poké Center outside of Mt. Moon, whose entrance is located on this very route. Catch of the Day: Jigglypuff* & Sandshrew*. (*Sandshrew is available only in Yellow, while Jigglypuff is obtained in Red/Blue.) In the Poké Center outside of the massive cavern, a man is waddling around, saying he'll sell you a Magikarp for $500. Save your money! Magikarp is the weakest Pokémon there is. You can catch one later using an Old Rod, but I'll get to that later. Finally, Mt. Moon! Capture a Zubat and Geodude here. They're quite common in this cave, and Geodude is very strong. It may be slow, it may have a terrible Special, but it's high Defense, Attack, & Electric type immunity make up for that. You may want to train one for defeating Lt. Surge later on in the game, as his Pokémon are incredibly weak to it. The trainers can wear you down here. If you are too far to go back, and you're wounded, use the Escape Rope item to teleport you to the last Pokémon Center you were at. There's a small chance of seeing a Clefairy or Paras in these caves, so carefully capture them if you are lucky enough! There's an area near the end of Mt. Moon, where a Super Nerd is guarding two fossils. Defeat him and choose one. The Dome Fossil gets Kabuto, while the Helix gets Omanyte MUCH later in the game. Also close by, there's a small little strip of land. It's very close to being under him. Walk to the end of this tiny area and press A. Another hidden item! This item, it isn't a mere Potion- it's a rare Moon Stone! You can use it on a Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Nidorino or Nidorina to make them evolve! However, if you are training them to be on your team, don't do that yet! If you do, they won't learn very good attacks. Well, I guess that Nidoking and Nidoqueen should be gotten as soon as you can evolve 'em, because they don't learn any good attacks as their former forms. Instead of some idiotic Fury Swipes or Horn Drill, you can give them the powerful Body Slam or Thrash, depending on which one it is. In Yellow, though, you'll be confronted by the pathetic T.V show Team Rocket when you try to make your way out of this massive cavern! They have a Meowth, Ekans and Koffing all at level 14. An Alakazam will make short work of these notorious weaklings and, after so much time, you'll emerge into sunlight at last! Catch of the Day: Geodude, Paras, Zubat, & Clefairy. Collect the TM 4, Whirlwind, & jump down from the barrier of stones. You'll end up in a bush that will contain either Sandshrew, a Ground-type in the Blue version, or Ekans the Poison-type in Red. Catch of the Day: Sandshrew* & Ekans*. (*Sandshrew is found in Blue while Ekans in Red.) Be aware that once you jump over the barrier, you won't be able to return to those areas you left behind until you can use HM2, Fly, or Diglett's Tunnel. You can go to Cerulean City now. Search all the buildings to find a bike shop, trading post/sick Pokémon care center/whatever else. In Red/Blue, there's a house where there's a man who's willing to trade a Jynx for a Poliwhirl that you can provide. You'll have to trade for a Jynx in Yellow. In the Yellow version, it's quite different. Just like the T.V show, there' a girl tending to a Bulbasaur. When your Pikachu gets happy enough (you'll get it happier by leveling it up) she'll give it to you! It's most likely this won't happen until after you conquer all the experience- giving trainers out on Nugget Bridge. Oh well… After you've had your fun, it's time to move on to the Gym in town!
