On the drive home, my car suddenly stopped. "?" I motioned. Drag sighed. "We're out of gas!!" "No matter," Patch smiled. "There's 5 stations around us!" She was right. Starmie's Station, Gengar's Gas, Fearow's Fuel, Diglett's Diseal, and Omanyte's Oil were all, o-so-conviniently, within pushing distance. "But where are the prices for the gas? They aren't up." Light shrugged. "I'll go check." We nodded. Light left the car, walked away, but stopped short when he started talking to four people and a little yellow Pokémon. He wrote something in his notebook that he pulled out from his pocket, and jogged back. "Each of those people (and Pokémon!) stopped by a different gas station to buy a different item. All the prices of all 5 gas stations are different for each gallon." Light handed over the sheet. "Can you figure out the station with the cheapest gas?" (NOTE: People are Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, and (shudder) Todd. Items bought are a candy bar, bubble gum, a postcard, a map, and chips. Stations are Starmie's Station, Fearow's Fuel, Gengar's Gas, Omanyte's Oil, and Diglett's Diseal. Prices per gallon are $.80, $.85, $.95, $1.05, and $1.10. Gum is NOT considered food or "edible". Also note that your only object is to figure out WHO bought WHAT from WHICH STATION for HOW MUCH for the cheapest price, not to figure out EVERYONE'S. For example, if Todd found gas for $1.05, we don't need to know what he bought or where he went, only the person who found gas for $.80.) 1. Ash didn't chew or eat anything. Brock bought something sweet. Pikachu bought an edible item. Todd's new postcard is a picture of Butterfree. Misty bought either bubble gum or chips. 2. Maps are sold only at Diglett's Disiel and Fearow's Fuel (Brock didn't go to either of them). Chips are not sold at Gengar's Gas, where Misty went. Whoever wanted the candy bar didn't go to Omanyte's Oil. Either Pikachu or Todd went to Fearow's Fuel, and the other found gas for the cheapest price. 3. Gengar's Gas sells gas for $.85. The place that sells postcards, which is not Omanyte's Oil, had gas for at least $1.00. Brock went to a place with either $.95 gas or $1.10 gas. The one who bought a map and the one who shopped at Fearow's Fuel both went to two stores who's gas, when combined, is exactly $2.00. Brock didn't see $1.05 gas. Oh boy, that's a hard one, eh? You MUST be cheating to get this low! Give up? What? You GOT it? Wow.. Okay.. don't you dare be lying to me!! I, for once, finished first. "That was hard," I said, "But I'm pretty sure that Pikachu bought chips at Omanyte's Oil, where gas is sold for $.80. Why?? I'm WAY confused. "Too easy, eh?" Light snickered. No one replied, but we were all smiling. The drive home was a nice talk, learning about our new friend Light, when suddenly, we were driving by a Pokémon Center. Glass was broken, and policemen surrounded the area. "What happened here?" I wondered. "I dunno, stop the car!" Patch yelled. And so I did. Logic #4: Rocket's Rockin' I'm too scared!
