Peter Tchaikovsky (1840-1893)

1) Symphony No. 6 >> Pathetique << and
>> 1812 << Overture
Yet another of those CD's I purchased when I really couldn't afford to purchase much beyond the necessities of life. This one cost me a couple dollars, I think. On the LaserLight Digital label, Adam Fischer conducts the Hungarian State Orchestra. One day while eating lunch at work I noticed one of my new co-workers was listening to a rap album on his CD player (with earphones). I grabbed this album from my at-work collection and tossed it on the table next to his player. 'When you want to hear something melodic, pop this in,' I told him, and pointed to the fifth track on the album (the 1812 Overture). Then I walked out. Half an hour later, he returned the CD with a big grin on his face. Rap has its moments, I guess, but can't beat a classical piece with church bells and cannons. The 6th Symphony is among the greatest symphonies ever composed, in my opinion, and this recording captures all that is great about it. No church bells, no cannons, but lots of emotion.

I'll add more as I find enough information to give a decent listing. I listen to more than I have in my cd collection, and by no means own cd's of all my favorite pieces.
