An Interview with the band guitarrist and songwriter, Vidar

This interview is absolutely free to spread, zines that have problems contacting Ethereal Pandemonium, feel free to use this chat in your zine.

I know that you have released a new album "Arcanum Lunae". Are you satisfied with the work you've done?

Absolutely, what can I say? We like the final sound of the recording, as well as the production. We had no stress while making this album, therefore our work was progressing calmly, and you can hear it.

In what is it different from the first one?

It differs in many aspects. the sound is much better, this time it is a lot deeper that was before. We have more atmospherical moments there, made with keyboard experiments. Five different vocals appear there, besides Nathuruss, D.S.Soliloquay and C.Ekorn, also I sing and we have also the female singer from the Slovak Philharmonic Choir!!

Well, enough about music, I would like this interview to be about something else. What is the Ideology of Ethereal Pandemonium?

There is no common ideology behind our band, as we have seven members, seven individual human beings, and each one of us has his own ideology, belief, or life code. Many blame us from being a nazi oriented band, but those are the ones that mistake pagan symbols (f.e. swastika) for some other ones. It is true, that the lyrics are influenced by pagan mythology and belief, we support the idea of slavonism and deny christianity as the jewish cult created for weak. Our definition of music is based on some kind of renewal, or reincarnation of the classical music. When I hear the mighty guitar riffs supported by explosive drums and symphonic and atmospheric keyboards, it sounds to me like the classic of the next millenium. That is how we try to make our music, not just being fast as hell and singing about satanic rites and fucking nuns.

What is your idea of a perfect society?

Well, the age must have been given to the 623-658, place would be the present Slovakia. Samo's Reich. That would be the ideal society for me. Based upon worshipping the natural powers embodied in slavonic gods, making the war wanderings... If I wanted to create a perfect society in the present age, I would form a strong authoritative state, where only those who deserve it, can afford their freedom. No democracy or socialism, these systems deform the strong human spirit. The authoritative systems have been the mainstones of the working culture for more than 2000 years and the world went right. The democracy brings corruption, the socialism brings the human addiction to others. None of these are good for me.

You all sure have the favorite bands. What are they right now and what bands did influence you since the beginning...

Well, right now, I do not have any special favorite band. I like to listen to black metal indeed, but mostly the classics... From the new records I really like new In Flames, new Mithotyn, Raventhrone, but that' s all. Oh, I would forget... the Polish black metal, mostly Dagor. I like different kinds of music, from rock to death, but what I really hate is all that crust grindcore. I do not understand it, maybe that's why... The music I love is the classical music. My favorite is Orff with Carmina Burana. Rhaa also loves classical music, Nathuruss is more into gothic rock and metal, Demogorgon loves heavy speed metal (Helloween etc.), De Sade Soliloquay is more into doom metal and NS rock, Countess listens to everything and Herr Doktor mostly Mayhem, Darkthrone and Slayer. What really influenced me are the bands like Burzum, Master's Hammer, XIII stoleti, but also Bathory etc. Also the writers influenced me, Tolkien, Baudelaire...

I would like to know how long have you been the fan of the underground music? Do you consider yourself to be the expert upon this kind of music?

Well, I began listening to the rock music in the age of 9, when I discovered bands such as Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Metallica etc. Then I started to look for some harder stuff and at the age of 11 I discovered death metal bands like Dismember, Entombed, Death etc. Black metal came to my life only in 1996, when me and Nathuruss formed Ethereal Pandemonium. So I wouldn´t call myself an expert on Black Metal, but in deed I am som ekind of expert on the underground music.

Are you interested in the politics? I know that many present black metallers are into netionalist ideas. How' s it with you?

As I have told you, I feel to have the pagan blood in my veins and I am proud to be a Slav. You decide whether it is a nationalism. I hate watching what's happening in Yugoslavia these days. I would like to express my hail to the Serbian People. One day, the chaos comes and the time for revenge arrives. Until then, keep on defending your country!!! Yes, call me a nationalist, but no nazi, please!

I will tell you now some words and I want you to tell me what comes to your mind, when hearing a word... "war"...

The expression of braveness and strenght. Of course the ancient wars were like this. You must have been brave and strong to fight. Now, it is all in having nuclear weapons and stuff. I would give NATO swords in their hands and then asking them to attact Serbia...

... "love"...

It this supposed to lead me into "make love, not war" quote??? Well, of course there are people whom I love but giving love to everybody is much too chirstian attitude, and that's not my case.

... "Cradle of Filth"...

Well, I liked their music in times of "Dusk and Her Embrace", but the new stuff ain't for me.

..."music"...

A great way of expressing your inside. And it is every kind of music, not just black metal.

Ok, I guess it is time for an end, but before we do so, tell me something about the future plans of Ethereal Pandemonium...

Well, there are no special plans in our minds. We just try to go forward all the time and do things our way. As Ludovit Stur (a great Slovak thinker and nation defender) said: "Backwards going impossible, forward go we have to!"

Yeah, so, any message for the end?

Just keep on supporting the right things!!! And Ethereal Pandemonium of course.
