My Story

The Sad Story of a Canadian BFFer

I "discovered" BFF on August 9, 1998. I remember this date because it was my cousin's birthday. She was playing her CDs, often just one or two songs, and then a new CD. Then she played "Kate" and it caught my attention. I asked her what it was, and my obsession was born. "Kate" is still one of my favorite songs, but BFF wasn't one of those bands where you hear one really good song, and the rest is crap.

BFF is not widely known in Canada. On the internet, I've only heard of only a few other Canadian fans (Hi guys!) None of my friends have heard of BFF. If the band ever comes closer to where I live than Vancouver or Toronto (Grrrrr!), I'm dragging my cousin along so I won't have to go by myself. She's not even close to a die-hard fan like me, but she's the only person I actually know that has heard of BFF from somewhere other than me.

I've heard "Brick" on the radio twice, and seen SFTD on Muchmusic twice (once my dad was watching with me and he said, "Boy, that's an angry band," and I laughed my head off.) and I've seen the Army video on Muchmusic once - that was when they had an interview with BFF (May 6, 1999, the day after the Toronto concert.) I've found three magazines with Ben Folds Five in them. (Funny, but they're all American magazines....) It took me forever to find WAEA, and especially the S/T album, because I live in a small town in Canada. Needless, to say, I've never been to a concert, and getting a hold of some of those singles is virtually impossible (especially because I can't order them over the internet unless it's a Canadian site and I can get permission.)
