DESC: Welcome to the Barren Realms Academy, the starting point
for all of the newbies that come to our doorstep. Here, you can learn
how to MUD, some of Barren Realms' specific features which make us
different from other MUDs, and you can also enhance your attributes
with the your personal trainer. You can also gain your first few levels
by fighting various trainees in the courtyard, and battle head-to-head
with the Academy Master to earn your diploma. You can then proceed to the
practice arena where you can fight for your next few levels. Then it's
time to proceed out into the world.

DESC: Welcome to the wondrous town of Calathar, pride of the realms,

This is where you end up when you recall. This town contains a variety
of shops for your convenience, and the gates on all sides of the town
allow you safe passage into the various parts of the realms.

DESC: This is basically just a graveyard full of graves and the undead.
Watch out for the zombies. Try not to disturb too many graves or the

DESC: You are standing amidst the ancient oaks and poplars in the holy
grove. You feel unusually happy here, as if great burdens have been
lifted from your shoulders. The holy grove is a small secluded clearing
where small woodland creatures and a small band of druids live. Watch
out for the hierophants as their spells are quite powerful.

DESC: Moria is a cave full of all sorts of hideaous creatures, like bats,
kobolds, trolls, orcs, giants, and all sorts of other creatures. It also
has many winding twisting passages, where you may get lost quite easily.
There are also secret rooms in this area, where objects of great value
and creatures of great strength make their homes.

DESC: Antharia is an underwater kingdom with an ancient race of people,
who, now adapted to their underwater lives, have become strange humanoid
sea creatures. Their city is protected from falling debris and invaders
and given stable gravity by a magical artifact known as the Gem of
Salvation. There is much knowlege to be found there, and perhaps a few

DESC: The Astral Plane is a surreal plane, somewhere above the plane of
mortal men. It is a higher level of consciousness, and of thought. It
is ruled by a horribly disfigured lich-queen, who, though once human,
has become a creature of immeasurable evil.

DESC: Drow City is a mid-level higly aggressive area, full of the elves
of Barren Realms' evil bretheren, the Drow elves. They have an entire
evil civilization in their small city, where they live not-quite-peacefully.
They don't seem to happy to see anyone, and won't be happy to see you if
you ever go there.

DESC: The Dwarven Kingdom is the kingdom of the stout, strong race of
dwarves that inhabit the Barren Realms. You can visit their various
shopkeepers and tradesmen, and perhaps test your navigational skills
in the massive maze. When you reach the end of the maze, watch out for
the mazekeeper. He won't be too happy that you solved his maze and
found his secret room.

DESC: The desert is an arid sand-filled maze. It is easy to get very
confused and even easier to get lost here. Watch out for the roaming
large, purple sand worm which will not hesitate to eat a lost traveller.
Perhaps while you are there you should stay with the band of nomads
that live there. They seem to know their way around the place.

DESC: The High Tower of Sorcery is the home and favorite hang-out of
many of the most powerful magic-users in the Realms. There, what can
be found includes some of the most wondrous magical artifacts and
objects that can be found anywhere. And, atop the tower, there is a
magical altar to the magic-user's Goddess, Mystra.

control mine out tons of valuable rocks for his majesty every day.
But watch out for the horrible Duergar, the outcast dwarves.

DESC: The Shire is the peaceful kingdom of the Hobbits, or Halflings.

an artifact of great power and evil. Perhaps if you find him, you can
convince him to part with it. Just do not interrupt the hobbits' peaceful
way of life. If you do, you may have to answer to the Thain, who is the
law of the Shire.

town. The people fled, never to return. Now Thalos is all that's left
of this era of happiness.

treasure is well-guarded by the evil lich itself. And below Ciquala's
treasure lies a crypt full of undead monstrosities.

by minotaurs, it is ruled by Mahn-Tor, the minotaur Grand Master. Just
watch out for the snarling Yeti, and watch your back in the nearby
ogre village.

DESC: The Plains of the North area is basically a connection area for
many areas in the Realms, including Ultima, Candyland, the Midden'Nir,
Kyoto, and The Keep of Mahn-Tor just to name a few. Also, the Plains
of the North is the only area in the Realms where a mortal can play a
game with the Hangman for money or your life. Just watch out that you
don't end up near Shudde-M'ell, the giant aggressive worm.

DESC: Goblinic for "Green Blood", the Miden'nir is home to a variety
of goblins and their kin. In this dark forest, wyverns fly about,
creating carnage, and a dark horseman rides a lonely trail, hoping
to escape the law which hunts him down for the crimes he has commited.
A lonely innkeeper minds his inn by day and watches for goblins at
night. A small boy, the only survivor of a party destroyed by the
terrible creatures of the Miden'nir lies alone in wait of a saviour.

DESC: In the Air is a relatively small area that takes you above the
city of Calathar. From there, you can see a great distance, and perhaps
even ascend to a higher plane of reality. Be careful, though, as even
though the faerie dragons will not bother you, the fierce griffins that
fly about above the city will tear you to pieces.

DESC: Below the innocent-looking chapel lies a grimy catacomb. The inner
tombs have many mazelike random passages which can confuse you, and if
you are not careful, you will end up taking the short way to hell or
meeting the inhabitants of the tombs of the undead. Stone walls, musty
air ... the earth seems to moan softly.

DESC: Enter this tower of mystery, but beware, as the tower contains
more than meets the eye. Most everything in the tower is pure illusion,
but the danger is quite real. It can bend the mind and even bend the
very laws of reality. However, staying sane is not the only worry when
you enter this tower, as a powerful guardian guards each level of the
place.

DESC: Cormyr is a small dwarven kingdom, secluded from the other kingdoms
of the dwarven race. It is ruled by a most benevolent ruler, King Simba,
and the people live in peace. Dwarven workers work constantly on the mines
below the city, and, if you are looking for crafts, the dwarven shopkeepers
in Cormyr are some of the most skillful workers in the Realms.

DESC: Haon Dor is a dense, vast forest which stretches out to the east
and west of Calathar. It is inhabited by a variety of creatures, which
include wargs, foxes, a lumberjack, a watchful Forest Brownie, and even
a ferocious Green Dragon. And, this forest, although an entity in itself,
from a wider view, is really a major intersection of the Realms and
connects a wide variety of areas to Calathar.

the grand city is a dark, damp sewer, dirty and full of murky water full
of the town's trash. Rats and mud monsters inhabit the darkness, and in
the darkest depths, even more horrifying creatures live. Jones "cruncher"
the ettin and a ferocious fire breathing dragon are only a couple of the
creatures you may find on your journeys through this underground waterway.

objects go, there is a story hidden behind each room.

is inhabited by a small amount of mysterious efreeti.

of master thieves. Remember, though... never anger a jinnee, as they
are known to have some of the worst tempers in the world.

DESC: The Dark Sea is a dark body of water, where some of the most
fascinating (and dangerous) creatures in the Realms can be found.
In the deepest darkest seas, the kraken and leviathan can be found.
They are the two most lethal and vicious creatures in the entire
Sea, but they are closely matched by the numerous squid, octopii,
crabs, and other creatures of the deep.

DESC: Even the Barren Realms need a little culture, and this is the place
to find it. The museum has exhibits on many interesting aspects of history
and art, and in this museum, if you concentrate enough on the exhibits,
you can even enter some of them and feel like you are really there. The
museum features most prom inently an Ancient Mid-Eastern wing, a dinosaurs
wing, an evolution wing, and a gift shop with souvenirs so wonderful,
that the souvenirs alone can justify the trip.

deep dark forest, and it comes to an abrupt end at the entrance to a
dark unenterable fortress.

rob you blind. If you need any help in destroying them, just visit their
arch-enemy Gargamel in his castle just north if the village.

put them to justice. Unfortunately, they are still on the trail of the
bigger criminals of Mega-City One... perhaps you can find them first.

DESC: Hamelin used to be a town full of content townspeople who lived

An outbreak of rats in Hamelin, though overlooked at first, became their
downfall, as the townspeople soon realized that the rats had infested
the town, and their elected officials were too stupid to do anything about
it. Now, Hamelin is nothing more than a shell of it's former glory, with
rats running about as if they own the town. Based on the script from
the play "The Pied Piper" as used by the Brooklyn Heights Players.

is a place of worship to a fierce golden dragon which could if it so
wished, demolish the town. The dragon is also guarded by a force of
dragonlords and dragonknights in it's home in the golden citadel.

through his tyranny, has managed to take prisoner a number of humans
and put them to work as slaves to the rats. The rats also keep a
horrible creature, the Firedrake, to watch over their vast treasure,
which lies deep in the heart of the Rats Lair.

this valley do not take kindly to strangers, and a large many of
them will attack any intruders they see.

The town, despite it's appearance, contains some of the most unique,
if not useful, items in the Realms.

order. There is one thing that the people of Thalos had not learned,
though, as they did not hesitate to begin to take lamias as pets
once again, the mistake which cost them their old home.

A traveller who had luckily returned alive from a battle with it, was
driven insane, so as to the point where the only words he would utter

you'll be with the Amazing Mumford. You'll be safe there, won't you?
Just remember that it's not easy being green and there's no such thing
as a Snuffulupagus... or is there? Who could have changed this place
of education and goodness into such an evil neighborhood?

witches who practice their satanic blood-sacrifice rituals to a beast
from the depths of hell nearby. Perhaps that has something to do with
the disappearances.

is scaled down quite a bit in size, but leaves just enough room for
members of every race if they can duck down far enough. It is even
rumored that the great Faerie Queen keeps a room in the Faerie Ring
where she stays almost idefinitely.

DESC: Freeport is the shipping center of the world. The combination
of its strong naval academy and its powerful captains guild, coupled
with its strategic location in the center of the seas of the pirate
lords makes it economically powerful. It is the wealth and commerce of
Freeport which draws the pirates in the surrounding islands. Little
known to many is the fact that the mayor, 1st admiral, and 1st master
merchant of Freeport all are corrupt and work for Lord Mourning the 6th
pirate lord. Mourning tips off his fellow pirate lords on the shipping
routes, cargo lists, and passenger lists of all the vessels which will
pass their way. In turn he gets a cut from the booty.

DESC: The Isles of the Pirate Lords are five seperate islands that are
scattered about the Seas of the Pirate Lords. These islands are so named
because some of the pirates that frequent the area to loot the nearby
shipping center of Freeport make their homes on these islands where they
can hide in complete isolation and freedom. These islands are also
inhabited by the creatures and peoples that lived there originally, who
were not discarded by the pirate lords so as to prevent suspicion.

provide the only passage to the world shipping center of Freeport and the
fabled Isles of the Pirate Lords. It is told that an observant sailor who
looks in all directions before moving his ship is more likely not to
get shipwrecked on the shoals.

DESC: In the middle of the grand city of Solace lies the most amazing,
one-of-a-kind Grocery Store in the Realms. Within you can find some
of the most well-known product mascots, such as Oscar Meyer, Little
Debbie, and yes, even Bart and Homer Simpson. Be careful that you don't
get lost moving up and down the aisles of this immense supermarket.
Also, be careful that you don't stumble into the lair of the local
gang that is just around the corner from the store.

only unhappy creatures in the castle are the castle mice that can't seem
to find any food on the floors because of the constant sweeping and dusting
of the servants.

DESC: The Treetops and Canopy is the Realms' one and only rainforest, which

land. As the name implies, you can walk among the tops of the trees of the
forest and explore the vast canopy... It is also rumored that an amazing
castle in the clouds can be found near this area.

The force of good in the kingdom is a lone warrior, long gone, and very
mysterious, who seeks the Princess's hand himself, and to overthrow the
evil Humperdink. There are many other characters and plots which have not
been mentioned, but can be found by viewing the basis of this area, a
movie called "The Princess Bride".

tower is also protected by some sort of magical device which prevents
elves from teleporting to any location within the tower and prevents
druids from astraling to any people already in the tower. The rest

rectangle (hence the name cage)... the second part consists mainly
of a huge ocean and the places around it (hence the name aquarium).

walking toy soldiers. In the Day Care center, there is a messy
kitchen, bathroom, and a playground for the little kids, and below
the Day Care center there is a mini-maze, not completely dissimilar
to the maze in the Dwarven Kingdom.

DESC: (The Land of MTV) The land of MTV is a wondrous land where you can

needlessly slaying interns. Also, if you climb high enough, you can meet
the members of The State, who, although their show was cancelled, still
may be able to drag a laugh or two out of you. Just don't start with
Chiapet. Although he's no longer immortal, he still packs an extremely
strong punch.
(River) Float along the famed Calathar River in the vessel of your
choosing, passing by various rafters and dodging the divebombs of vicious
seagulls. Watch out though for the raging waterfall. It will leave you
high and dry. And no matter what, don't leave the vehicle while it is
in motion, or you may end up all wet.

to it, as below the lake surface is a vast underwater domain

in the arena. Typing arena (red, blue, green, yellow, orange,
purple) will automatically transport you to that color booth. And
remember, in the maze, anything goes as player killing is allowed in
there, and, if you die there, you won't lose any experience and you
won't have to get your corpse.

Just watch your step, or you'll be wiping bug guts off of your shoes

centaurs who are good hearted and will not hurt you without being

DESC: In time, the smurf village grew to an enormous size, and they were
running out of materials to build their little mushroom houses out of.
So, in desperation, they deforested another section of the woods and
built New Smurf Village to house all of the new additions to the smurf
family. (Smurfette must have been busy). Just stay away from those
darn smurfberry mini cup-cakes, because they don't taste very good.

DESC: Welcome to the peaceful village of the small peaceful creatures
known as gnomes. If you wander about, you can see men, women, and
children wandering the streets. Just don't mess with the guards in
the gnome fortress because they're guarding a dark secret which lies
below in the darkness. And while you're here, watch out for the nearby
hobgoblin village, there are some pretty nasty hobgoblins there who
won't think twice about killing you.

DESC: Enter the Dragon Tower, home to the powerful Draconian race.
Unfortunately, the Draconians don't care too much for any other races,
especially humans, who they have an extreme dislike for. The only human
who has ever entered their gates and lived is a powerful mage, who
obviously serves some greater purpose to the ruler of the tower. You get
the feeling that the King of the Draconians isn't the power behind the
tower, but the only way to find out who really is will be to go and
discover it for yourself.

modifications... They have quite a few of today's modern technological
advances. Wyhtl is based on a comic strip called Yamara from Dragon
Magazine and the town's name itself stands for Where Yamara Has To Live.
The whole town is full of intrigue, scandal, and mystery. Perhaps you
can solve a mystery or two if you can figure out what's going on...
