X11
Version 11 of X Window System is referred as X11.
X11 is a portable network window system.
There is no X11 command.
X is the network-based windowing system.
Window application can be run on remote computers
with the results displayed on a local UNIX workstation.
Only TCP/IP and DECnet networks are supported by the X.
The protocol used to communicate across the network is X protocol.
Each display is controlled by X server.
Client ( or window application ) running on either the local
or the remote systems.
Root window is the screen background.
The screen layout and the style of user interaction is
controlled by the separated program, called the window manager.

- keyboard input is automatically assigned to
whatever window the pointer currently happens
to be in.
olwm - OPEN LOOK window manager from AT&T and SUN.
mwm - Motif window manager from Open Software foundation
.mwmrc - motif window menu file configuration
CDE - Common Desktop Environment
.de - CDE configuration directory
xdm - X display manager

For example: Enable/Disable Scrollbar
LeftButtonDown ===> Copy
LeftButtonDoubleClick ===> Copy

xterm -sb - open new window with scrollbar
xterm -bg green - open new window with background "green"
xterm -fn 9x15bold - open new window with font "9x15bold"
exit, ^D - exit from window "xterm"
How to open window over network ?
Step 1.
setenv DISPLAY dbs:0.0 or
setenv DISPLAY 140.1.120.5:0.0
- where a window to be opened,
to be executed on the local workstation
Step 2.
xhost +
- window access is granted to everyone,
to be executed on the remote workstation
Step 3.
Now a window application ( client ) may be executed on the
local workstation and the results will be displayed
on the remote workstation ( X server )

filemgr - GUI-based file managmant application for X
xman - manual page display program for X
xcalc - scientific calculator for X
xclock - analog/digital clock for X
xload - display CPU loading
imagetool - Image viewer for olwm,
it may be used in mwm too
